Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
Monday morning, everyone, and welcome to the Morning Run.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
It's May nineteenth.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I'm Amy Robots and I'm TJ Holmes and coming up
on today's very busy run. Big news the announcement yesterday
from former President Joe Biden he's been diagnosed with an
aggressive type of prostate cancer. Well wishers are coming in
from all over, including some rare kind words from President Trump.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Meantime, Trump is working the phones today trying to end
a war. And a deadly collision between a Mexican Navy
ship and the Brooklyn Bridge over the weekend leaves two
dead and dozens more injured.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Also on the run this morning, an intentional act of terrorism,
a fertility a fertility clinic bombing in California leaves one
dead and four injured. Also, the New Orleans area still
on high alert and a massive manhunt continues. Seven escaped
inmates are still on the.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Loose, plus more than two two dozen people have died
as the death toll rises in that massive tornado outbreak
over the weekend. And Sean Ditty combs the trial resumes
for its second week. Ditty's ex Cassie Ventur and her
husband both released statements after her graphic testimony last week.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Also this morning, Pope Leo officially gets to work. Walmart
gets a presidential warning and what a burger gets sued.
Apparently one customer really meant it when he said, no onions.
I don't know if this is this frivolous. I don't
know if it's frivolous. You need to hear it out first.
It sounds ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
But we shall see, and we'll give you the details
coming up in just a moment. But we do begin
our run with that shocking news. Former President Biden has
an aggressive form of stage four prostate cancer. He and
his family are now reviewing what his treatment options will be.
They made the announcement yesterday after last week, announcing that

(01:54):
a small nodule was found during a routine exam.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
And after that they did a follow up up and
that's when they say they discovered that this cancer was there,
that it had spread to his bones. But the statement
they put out says, quote, while this represents a more
aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be
hormone sensitive, which allows for effective management end quote. Biden

(02:17):
of course, is eighty two years old.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It
is the second deadliest for men as well. And as
you might imagine, when news of Biden's condition came out,
well wishes flooded in from all over, including from both
Democrats and Republicans, and.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
One Republican in particular gave a rare pleasantry. This was
nice to see, Robes this one President Trump saying, quote,
Malania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden's
recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes
to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a
fast and successful recovery. So it's worth mentioning. Yes, they're
coming in from all over, but this was nice to

(02:57):
see as well. And look, let the rest of the debates.
His health has been a topic of some debate for
a couple of years here now and now this is
going to add to I guess some mystery about what
was going on in the White House and why this
diagnosis is just being discovered.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Now, right Because for a cancer to have already spread
to his bones, for it to have meantesticized, the problem
is that there is no cure once cancer reaches that stage.
But there have been massive medical advancements made so that
they can prolong his life, make his life as comfortable
as possible. But this is certainly devastating news, and it's
in question how it's only now being discovered or announced

(03:36):
at this point if it is already at such an
advanced stage, stage four.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
It's difficult, But they do say, I mean, still as
tough as it, terrible as it sounds. I say, even
with treatment here he can't. They're forgive me for the
name what they call the rates of how long people
end up still surviving after a diagnosis like this. But
still five plus years is not unheard of after some
thing like this. So we're all wishing him well.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
We certainly are next up on our run. President Trump
will be working the phones today trying to end a war,
and the first call happens at ten am Eastern time
to President Vladimir Putin. Trump said via social media that
the subject of the call will be quote stopping the
bloodbath end quote.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Yeah. He then plans to call President Zelensky after his
Putin call, and then call a number of NATO members
after that. President Trump wrote, hopefully it'll be a productive day,
a ceasefire will take place, and this very violent war
that should have never happened will end.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
And by the way, this is a very pleasant and
hopeful update. Russian and Ukrainian officials did speak face to
face on Friday in Istanbul.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
That was in question when we were on the Friday
morning run.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
So that did in fact happen, and that was their
first direct talks since the war began three years ago.
So the fact that both presidents are getting on the
phone with Trump today is actually creating more hope for
peace in this region.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
All right, we will continue our run here and the
next leg takes us right here to our backyard in
Lower Manhattan where that was really just a stunning event
that took place at the Brooklyn Bridge over the weekend.
Two sailors are dead and twenty one others injured when
their Mexican naval ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge. This
happened on Saturday night and rose when this news started

(05:25):
coming out, We started getting alerts and then we started
seeing video. We could not believe what we were seeing.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, we were actually in bed, We were going to bed.
My daughter was out at a party, everybody was talking about.
She said, Mom, you've got to turn on the news,
and my goodness, if you haven't seen it, it's everywhere.
But it was dramatic and terrifying, and it was all
caught on video.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
So many people.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
It was a beautiful night here in New York City
on Saturday night, so so many people were out by
the water along the East River and saw it happen.
And that is when the ship's three tall masts, they
were all illuminated by lights, so you could see it
so clearly hit the bridge and snapped and fell over.
Several crew members were working on top of those masks

(06:07):
at the time of the collision. They were literally left
dangling from harnesses high in the air until help arrived.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yeah, and you mentioned this was a sailboat. Those masks
were up there, the lights were on. It looked like
a pleasant cruise or something to even watch. It almost
looked like an event was taking place.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
It looked like a party. It was like a Mexican
party boat. They had a huge Mexican flag flying.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
It looked festive.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah. So it's coming into an area where look, a
lot of people were standing there. You knew it was
not going to fit, and you were just waiting for
it to slow down, waiting for it stopped, and it
never did. The bridge itself did have heavy traffic going
across it at the time. We're talking about car traffic.
No one on the bridge injured. However, authorities did shut

(06:52):
down the bridge briefly to inspect it, and to my surprise,
I thought it was going to have to be closed
for a while. They inspected it, said there was no
major damage, and opened a Police said the ship was
supposed to be heading out to sea. It wasn't supposed
to be going the direction of the bridge at all,
but the boat reportedly lost power due to some mechanical issue.
They weren't able to control it and it veered off course.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
The ship arrived in New York nearly a week ago,
and it was scheduled to stop at twenty two ports
in fifteen nations over the next nine months. This is
an annual voyage that the Mexican Naval Cadets take. It's
how they finished their naval military school training. The crew
was made up of two hundred and seventy seven cadets
and they'd all been at sea since early April. Of course,

(07:33):
the details of the cause of this crash remained under investigation,
but certainly a tragic and stunning scene here in Lower Manhattan.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Is going on down here, of course, the helicopter crash. Remember,
but this seems like what this just can't happen. It
doesn't matter. I don't care. This can not so accidents happen.
This can't happen.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Look, we have all seen where perhaps certain ships have
miscalculated tides. It doesn't happen often, but it's a very
close call. This wasn't even close. I mean, it was
obvious this ship had no business being in the East
River headed towards the Brooklyn Bridge. I cannot imagine what
that must have been like on that boat, especially for
those sailors who were on top of the mast, knowing
what was about to happen, and knowing that they had

(08:14):
no control over the vessel.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
All right, we will continue here on this Monday morning run.
Next leg takes us to Palm Springs, California, where police
have identified the man they say is responsible for bombing
a fertility clinic happen over the weekend. Investigators say twenty
five year old guy Edward Barkas died and injured for
others in the massive blast that damage surrounding buildings and
shattered windows across several blocks.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
The FBI said the fertility clinic was specifically targeted by
Barkas and added, make no mistake, this is an intentional
act of terrorism. Investigators say they've already found online posts
and other writings of Barcas that show he had nihilistic
ideations and held onto a belief system that no one
should have children. Oh.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
They added that Barkas was attempting to live stream the bombing.
They say that bombing was so powerful it threw pieces
of the vehicle Barcas was using hundreds of feet into
the air and then several blocks away. The Attorney General
Pambondi said they are working on this, but said, let
me make this clear. The Trump administration understands that women

(09:20):
and children are the heartbeat of America. Violence against a
fertility clinic is unforgivable.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
All right.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Next up on the Run, we're going to head to
New Orleans, where a massive manhunt continues this morning for
seven of ten escaped inmates.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
This is day four of the search, now started on Friday,
when ten prisoners escaped through a hole in the wall
behind a toilet. That sounds too easy.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
It sounds like a movie a hole.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
And no, it sounds like a cartoon. Isn't that easy?

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah, and it's funny that you keep saying that, because
it's what the prisoners thought as well.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Okay that it was funny, because folks, they actually did
leave a message behind in which they were laughing. They
were mocking the security of the jail and they wrote
this on the wall. Too easy lol.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Also, of note, they misspelled two. They only used to
instead of to.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Oh, they were in a hurry, they didn't have time
for the other.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Or the fact that they even took time to write
it means that they were taking their time. Good point,
they weren't that concerned. And yes, the men who escaped
range in age from nineteen to forty two. They face
a number of violent charges. This is deeply concerning for
people who live in the area. Some of these men
are charged with aggravated assault, domestic abuse, battery, and yes,
I believe four of them are accused of murder. Local

(10:37):
authorities obviously, so I have continued to ask residents to
remain vigilant. Now.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
They do believe police that the inmates got some help
from inside the jail. So far, three employees have been
suspended without pay following the escape, but it's unclear what
role they may have played in the incident. Meantime, federal
and state officials have increased the reward information leading to
the arrest of the men, now offering twin ty thousand
dollars per inmate. This was the video is remarkable. You

(11:05):
see folks are running out like it's they're going into
a store by the latest sneakers.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Yeah, and then they found their clothes discarded, so it
really they had. This was all planned out and well thought.
Three of the escaped inmates were captured within a few
hours by Friday night, but those seven are still on
the lamb and considered dangerous. All right, next up on
the run. At least twenty eight people have now died
in a massive tornado outbreak. The storm swept through the

(11:30):
Midwest and the South over the weekend, causing significant damage,
flattening homes and businesses.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
That Kentucky was hardest hit. Nineteen of the reported deaths
are in that state alone, nearly a dozen others remaining
critical condition. Governor Basheer there said all of the deaths
came from a single EF three tornado that touched down
in Missouri. Meanwhile, seven people will will kill there and
thirty others injured. And in Virginia there have been at
least two deaths reported.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Thankfully, dry weather on Sunday helped in the rest in
relief efforts in those states.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
But here's the problem.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
More severe storms are predicted once again for some of
those same impacted areas, both today and tomorrow. And by
the way, the National Weather Service said in total that
massive outbreak twenty eight tornadoes were reported there.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
All right, folks, will stay with us on this Monday
morning run. When we come back, we'll tell you what's
happening in the Diddy trial, testimony expected to get under
way this morning. Also, why Pope Leo. We've known he's
been the pope almost two weeks, but he didn't officially
get to work until yesterday. We'll explain. Also, Walmart is
getting a warning and what a burger. You better hold
those onions or else it might cost you a million dollars.

(12:48):
All Right, we continue this Monday morning run. The next
leg brings us right back here to the Lower Manhattan
where testimony resumes this morning in the Diddy trial. The
prosecution is expected to begin today with a close friend
of Cassi Ventura, the ex girlfriend of Seankong.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Ventura spent several days last week giving that emotional but
at times graphic testimony about her ten year relationship with Combs. Ventura,
who was eight and a half months pregnant, released a
statement Friday after she wrapped her testimony, and she called
the trial challenging, but empowering and healing for her. She
wrote this, the more I heal, the more I can remember,

(13:22):
and the more I can remember, the more I will
never forget. I'm glad to put this chapter of my
life to rest. As I turned to focus on the
conclusion of my pregnancy, I asked for privacy for me
and my growing family.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
And I kind of was surprised to see this, but
then I was happy to see it. Alex Fine, her husband,
which we talked so much about, he was sitting in.
Her husband had to sit in that courtroom and listen
through all of what she went through. Of course, he
knows so much about it, but to have to sit there,
you know, that was difficult for him to watch the
woman he loves I have to recall so much of
this stuff. But he did. He came out himself and

(13:57):
gave his own statement. He mentioned Combs, but not by
name in his statement. Instead said his wife had to
sit there in front of the person that tried to
break her, and then he wrote, so to him and
all those who helped him along the way, please know this,
you did not You did not break her spirit nor

(14:18):
her smile that lights up every room. You did not
break the souls of a mother who gives the best
hugs and plays the silliest games with our little girls.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Wow, that was powerful.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
That was cool for me, and it put out and
we've been curious and wanted to hear from him, but
they kind of put out statements leave us alone.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
And I think that was smart, you know, that was
their reaction. And then, yes, they definitely deserved their privacy,
and certainly given the times they're in with a baby
on the way, and just perhaps that was just so
good for her to be able to seriously close that
chapter as best she could and then have so much
to look forward to.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
He also called it an insult for anybody to say
he stepped in and saved her, said, Cassie saved Cassie.
It's an insult to say anything else.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
That's so he That was a perfect statement by him.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
All right.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Next up on the run, we're gonna head to Rome.
The papacy of Pope Leo the fourteenth is now officially underway.
Yesterday was inauguration day for the new pontiff. The inaugural
mass took place at the Vatican, which marks the official
start of his papacy.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Yeah, big deal. A number of world leaders were there well.
A bunch of world leaders were there, among them Vice
President j d Vance. President Zelenski of Ukraine was there
as well, and two hundred thousand of the Pope's closest
friends were also there. That was the estimated crowd that
gathered there to hear him speak. He had some familiar
themes of peace and of unity, but Robes in particular,

(15:41):
he spoke about the church going outside of the church.
It doesn't They need to make sure they spread God's
love and it doesn't matter where you're spreading it and
who they are, if they're religious or not. So those
are some of his themes from yesterday.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Love, those based inclusive and universal messages of that's what
we need in this world.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
All right.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Next up on a run, Walmart warned last week, it's
gonna have to raise prices because of tariffs. Well, now
Walmart is being warned, you better eat those terriffs.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Yeah, that warning comes from the president. President Trump said
that after Walmart announced customers are going to start seeing
higher prices at the end of this month and certainly
next month, and they blamed tariffs. Trump didn't like that.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Hmmm, somehow we probably could have anticipated this. So President
Trump posting this, Walmart should stop trying to blame tariffs
as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain. Wart
Walmart made billions of dollars last year, far more than
expected between Walmart and China. They should, as is said,
eat the tariffs and not charge valued customers anything. I'll

(16:52):
be watching and so will your customers.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
That's a warning.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Dun dun dump.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yeah, don't exactly know what it means, but those prices
they say, it's coming for sure. The reason this is
a big deal is because this is the biggest retailer
in the world. If anybody is built to deal with
some increased tariffs a little pain for a while, they can.
If they're having to pass it on to customers, then
everybody's gonna do it. So we'll see how this battle

(17:18):
weighs out final leg of our run. Now, a Texas
man has filed a lawsuit against what A Burger because
they messed up his order. You see, he told them
to hold the onions ropes.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
But when he bit into his burger, there they were onions.
So he is now suing and asking for damages in
between two hundred and fifty thousand to eight million dollars.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Does that sound fair?

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Okay? If we just stop the story right there, what
would your opinion be?

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (17:46):
No?

Speaker 3 (17:47):
Is there any argument he could come up with if
we just stopped the story right there? If for why
you would be do a million dollars for putting onions
on my burger?

Speaker 1 (17:56):
If there was death or massive injury?

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Hey, there we go. So let's explain the rest now,
Rose He claims, yes, there is injury because he has
an allergy to onions. So just taking one bite, he said,
caused him to have an allergic reaction that was so
severe that he had to seek medical attention, and as
the lawsuit calls it, he had quote serious personal injuries.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
So now that you hear it, yes, but there's an
asterisk to this sty there because this isn't the first
time he sued a fast.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Food chain for getting his order wrong.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
He also sued Sonic correct for saying they also put
onions on his birth They.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Need to get his order right. The man has of
a severe allergic reaction to onions. You have to respect this.
They're gonna kill the man if they put more onions.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
So here's the deal. This is what I read when
I went deep into this story. The issue is he
is going to have to provide the receipt that showed
he's specific asked for no onions. He's going to have
to show his medical records and documentations that he actually
did suffer a severe reaction to eating one bite of

(19:10):
this onion. And if he can do that, then he
does have a decent case. But it remains to be
seen what his actual evidence will be when it comes
to the lawsuit.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
We have a new wild suit. It seems like every morning. Yes,
but good luck to you, my brother. Let me know
how that one works out. But before we let you
go on, there's Monday morning. Something we'd like for you
to consider. It is our quote of the day, and
I love this.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
One because it's from your files. So clearly this is
one that's near and dear to you. Here it is folks,
and the relationship and cry once. It's better than being
with them and crying daily.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
And the church said, heymen, I remember putting this up
on the wall the GMA on my door, and I
got so many kind of strong reactions like whoa, you're
going in on this one. You give them just a
few seconds, and you know.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
What, that's true?

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Hell, yeah, yeah, anyone who's been in a relationship that
probably they shouldn't have been, This rings true. And I
think most people can say they they yeah, they can
relate to this.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
And it hurts, like hell, you hate when a relationship ends.
You can't imagine going on. We've all gone through a
heart very core and end. Yes you cry it hard,
but yes, give it to.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Them on what times, and the relationship and cry once
it's better than being with them and crying daily.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
That is so so true.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
So yes, sometimes it's better to make the hard decisions
quickly instead of letting them later.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
All right, thanks for running with us on this Monday. Everyone.
I'm Amy Robots.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
And I'm GJ.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Holmes.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Will see you back here with the run to them
