Maybe it was one year later than expected but with the amount of roster moves and trades the Cowboys have already made, does this look more like “all-in” mode?

Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club Cowboys. This is Cowboys
Storyline with Nick Eatman.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
What's up everyone, Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. It is Wednesday, June,
the fourth day is important in our household. It is
my daughter's birthday. So Camilla, my little sweet Camella, is
turning five years old. Man, it's making me old or young,
one of the two are both at the same time.

(00:41):
I can tell you this, This is going to be
a memorable birthday for her, for sure. All right, let's uh,
let's talk some Cowboys football. Another OTA practice, getting closer
to the mini camp next week, three day mandatory mini camp,
and uh, I guess Michael Parsons is going to be here.
He's made that clear. He's made a few things clear.

(01:03):
And the tweet that he sent out the other day,
and that the ball's not in his courts and Jerry's court.
I bet you, I bet you. Both sides kind of
have their own opinions about that. But one way or another,
at least this is not the first or the last
of these negotiations. They'll get done. I think you know.
I give Mike a credit for being I mean, he's

(01:24):
he's still being here when he needs to be here,
and he was here yesterday. He did some things that
the Cowboys needed him to do from an internal standpoint.
As far as media responsibilities, he was there doing that.
He'll be at the mini camp apparently. And you know what,
I think they call these the it a holdout, maybe
it's a hold in. He's not the first one to

(01:45):
do that last few years too. As far as wanting
a contract, not doing everything, And I don't think anyone's
too concerned about where he is and what he's doing.
He seems to be mostly committed to what what's happening here,
and I think what it's really time to play, he'll
be here and it's time to practice in mandatory, he'll
he'll do what he needs to do, so she shouldn't

(02:07):
be a concern there. George Pickens had a pretty nice
practice yesterday. Looks good in his new uniform. Looks like
number three is going to be the number for him.
He made a switch with Dante Fowler. I talked to
him yesterday and Dante said that Pickens is gonna do
a little something for him. As far as you know,
maybe compensation do something as far as making that that trade.

(02:29):
But Fowler, he didn't seem to mind too much. And
he's kind of big on the Fowler of the thirteenth,
which I believe is coming up here this month. So he's, uh,
he's excited about the change. And then everybody wants these
low numbers, and I guess for Fowler, thirteen is low
enough there, all right? Eight eight eight eight FI five
two two nine seven is the number to call. We'll

(02:51):
start out in California very early out there, Michael and Colton, California.
What's up?

Speaker 3 (02:57):
What's going on? Everybody? Shout out to all the Caps
and shout out to you and thank you for taking
my call. Hey, Nick, I just want to say, man,
I love what the Jones that are doing this offseason.
You know, I have no problem being critical when things
go on that I don't like, and at the same token,
you know, I like to give props where props are due,
you know, and I really love it.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
You know.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
I just one thing, man, I have some trust issues,
you know that. I'm really like, I love what they're doing.
I'm just like, I'm scared to drink the kool aid,
you know what. I mean, I'm like, man, they're gonna
let us down again in the playoffs. And I know
we're talking, you know, way down the line and everything,
but man, I would love to see our Cowboys at
least make a championship game, you know, at least advanced

(03:41):
a couple of rounds in the playoffs. And and I
just want to hear your thoughts on that, and I
want to see if you can talk me off that ledge,
you know. And I'll hang up and go ahead and listen,
and once again, thank you for taking my call. I'd
best you on have a great day.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Thanks, Michael, appreciate that. You know, I'm not talking anybody
off the off the ledges or anything like that. I
don't think that's where you are. I think you know
you you you've been there for a long time, and
you've seen a lot of you know, a lot of
off season moves and or maybe some some off seasons
whether it weren't enough moves. And but either one way

(04:14):
or another where where you know, the optimism is high,
everyone's excited about the team, and then next thing you know,
there's there's a big loss. I mean, nothing, in my
time here, nothing seemed seems to be as worse as
the as the Packers lost just a couple of years ago.
That that's the worst worst loss that I can remember,

(04:34):
because you just had so high of expectations and hopes
and and then you got your ass kicked by a
team that was very lucky to even be in the playoffs,
and they came in here and and dominated the game
from the very start. And so that was one of
the more demoralizing losses. So I get it. I mean,

(04:54):
why why everyone doesn't want to be too excited, But
I I just look at it a little differently. I
just think, I mean, you get excited about football season.
That's what I do. I mean, I'm not gonna say
I don't speak for anyone else, and we don't tell
anybody else. I't a fan. But for me, I just
get excited that it's football season. And I can relate

(05:16):
because my college team is very similar, well not very
similar as far as like Arkansas and the Cowboys is
not very similar because they don't have as much success.
But you know, for me, the expectations, I don't expect
them to be a competing at a high level. So
it's to me, it's kind of fun to see what

(05:37):
things are, But it doesn't matter what your expectations are.
It's football seasons getting there. We're getting closer, getting closer,
And what is happening with the team. Do you like
in some of the moves? And I think two or
three months ago, especially when the hire was made, there
just wasn't a lot of optimism at all. And now
Schottenheimer has turned some things around. He's impressing people, he's

(05:57):
braced some eyebrows he's gotten and they've made some moves
to go along with that. They were pretty aggressive by
their standards in free free agency. They made They did
make some moves. They made some trades, but for trades
and then the biggest one of being being pickings. But
when you look at this roster and you think, well,
you know that they they've they've definitely filled some holes.

(06:17):
They've also you know, they're getting some guys back injury wise,
so you know it's it's one to look at and say,
you know, it's things go right. This team could be
a team that that's right there in the mix, but
certainly fun and and and I understand the hesitant nature
of well, I just don't know if this is going
to be the year no one knows, but I do

(06:39):
think I do think they've done enough to kind of
win the offseason, if that's a thing, And I think
they've done that all right, Jeremy Salt Lake Cities next.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
Hey, what Nick?

Speaker 2 (06:49):
How you doing?

Speaker 6 (06:51):
I'm doing good.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
I've been been a few weeks since I got to
talked to you before the sched came out. Yeah, you know,
as far as that last last exchange there, Yeah, I'm
I'm with you, dude. I'm just by the time rolls around,
I'm so excited for football period that I can't not
be excited excited for my favorite team. Even in the

(07:14):
Campo days when I knew, you know, it's gonna be
rough years, for some reason, I got excited about Peppi Zellner.

Speaker 7 (07:23):
Right.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
So, anyway, as far as the schedule goes, you know,
obviously I heard you talking the last week. I think
with somebody about first of all, the NFC East is
one of the first divisions of football, would you agree, Yeah, yeah,
it is now, and then the NF and then the

(07:44):
NFC North right right, and then when you look at
the AFC, probably the hardest division, especially this year now
with the Raiders getting Pete Carroll and gent And and
Gino and the AFC West. Right, So if we can

(08:04):
compete and do well, and I'm not saying run the
table or any of that kind of stuff, but if
we can get I think we're a better team than
we are last year, and we could have sports record
just because of the schedule. But if we get through
this schedule and make it to the playoffs, this team

(08:25):
will be battle tested and will be one of the
badass teams in the NFL. Think of it that way, right,
Every game you know that isn't a pushover, is iron
sharpen than iron, And you're gonna get better as you
go throughout the year. And we're not playing any I mean,
I think there's what maybe four games that no games

(08:48):
to give me, right, But there's four that we should
definitely win, right, But the rest of them, you know,
are kind of all up in the air. And I
think this team, by having a tougher schedule and having
to go through tougher divisions, you know, to a certain extent,
we're all going to beat up on each other. And

(09:11):
I think whoever comes out of this NFC East, especially
because we have to play the AFCU wes the NFC
North is going to be the best team in football. Yeah,
and that could be US. That could be US. I
think we you know, obviously we've got a few worries
of d tackle, right, and then maybe depth at corner

(09:34):
and stuff. But once our injured people over shown and
Diggs and all these guys start coming back in the
middle of the year, I think it's going to give
this team a boost and like I said, will be
battle tested if nothing else.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Right, right, all right, I like it. I like what
you're saying. What you're saying there, all right, Jeremy.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
Let's talking to you.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Take care of man, Thanks a lot, you know. I
think there's something to be said for that, as you know,
getting to the playoffs and having you know, the journey
to get there that it seems like two years in
a row the Cowboys have, or really two out of
three years when they were in those three straight twelve
and five seasons. I guess it was twenty one and
then the twenty three where they faced the team that

(10:22):
just got in in the forty nine Ers, and then
a couple years later the Packers and that team. I
think this is kind of what Jeremy's talking about. It's
like you have to kind of fight and to get in.
You've been playing playoff type games before the playoffs actually start.
You're battle tested, as he said, and you're getting there.

(10:44):
And I think you know that there is something to
be said for that. And if the Cowboys are going
to make it to the playoffs off of this schedule,
then yeah, they're probably going to be playing some December
light playoff games there at the end of the season.
But you know, for me, when I look at the
schedule and I you know, there's you can dissect it

(11:04):
so many different ways, but you know, I think of
four games that are against teams that were really really good,
had good records last year, great records. So the Eagles
obviously he had place play him twice. It'll be the
toughest on the road, at the Lions, the Chiefs, and
then the Vikings at home. So those four games, and
I'm saying at the Eagles, which is the first one

(11:26):
of the year, of those four games, those are the
games that people are probably saying, wow, that's probably a loss.
That's a loss. Maybe the Vikings at home. You never know,
but you don't the Cowboys have to win these games,
not all of them, but they need to win some
of them. They need to win at least one. Beat
the Chiefs on Thanksgiving, beat the Eagles a week one,

(11:48):
go go a week later after Thanksgiving and go beat
the Lions. I mean, last year it was very evident
they were not anywhere close to the top teams in
the league. So playff teams. You know, there's a difference
between the guys that make the you know at seventh
and then that make it first or second. But one
way or another that you have to show that that
you can you can compete and you can win some

(12:10):
of these games. And so that's what I'm looking at is, yeah,
you can go all day long and say, well they
better beat the Broncos, they better meat the Cardinals, better
with the Raiders. All that, yes, but one of these
games they're going to have to win. They're going to
have to go beat the one of these elite teams.
And who knows if they are going to be on
that same level this year. But I think the Cowboys,

(12:30):
you know, you can't just because there's so many great teams.
You can't just get by beating the teams you're supposed
to beat. Because if you look at this this schedule,
they're probably not supposed to beat most of them, so
they're going to have to kind of prove that and
then and that starts right off the bat against the Eagles.
All right, let's go to Brian in Kansas City.

Speaker 8 (12:47):
Brian, what's up, Good morning, mister Eatman.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
How you doing.

Speaker 7 (12:52):
I'm doing good, man, I'm doing good.

Speaker 9 (12:54):
You know, everybody's talked about the schedule since it came
out and that it doesn't look like third place schedule, right,
it looks really difficult, and you kind of explain, Hey,
you know that third place finish only.

Speaker 10 (13:07):
Affects a couple of games, right. All the other stuff
has to do with we just happened to be playing
AFC North in the AFC West this year, and you
know that was set long ago, long before anything had
to do with our schedule.

Speaker 7 (13:21):
We do.

Speaker 10 (13:22):
We have a really, really tough schedule, and you know,
no question about that. I agree with that caller. But
you know, I watched I rewatched the twenty eighteen playoff
game against the Seahawks, and I picked that game to rewatch,
and I had thought about it before because guess who
was the offensive coordinator at the time, yep Shott. He

(13:43):
was their offensive coordinator. So and they didn't have a
great game that game, but they were in the playoffs.
And one of the things I had forgotten this is
this is without beast mode. This is this is they
had a guy Carson was there was their primary running back.
At the time. They led the league in rushing. So,

(14:04):
you know, one of the things we heard when he
took over is, you know, we're going to emphasize the
running game. Where you know, they brought in the coaches
that seemed to indicate that, you know, a bunch of
offensive lineman coach guys that are you know, let's run
the ball. So I had forgotten that they were that
much of a running team that year. They they averaged

(14:26):
one hundred and sixty yards a game and they didn't
have beast mode. Yeah, so that really gives me some
hope that, hey, you know what, if you give them
somebody you know who's competent.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
I can't remember their receivers. Was it I know Lockett
was there, but was.

Speaker 10 (14:45):
It Lockett was? I don't remember who the other it
was not. It was not a big name guy, but
Lockett was the primary guy. They didn't have a real
top name tight end either you know it was you know,
but still Lockett a good receiver. And at the time,
coming into that game, Wilson was eight and four in

(15:06):
the playoffs. He was he was a top tier quarterback. Still, yeah,
you know, he was a good So I just gave
you a lot of hope about that. And I think
for my question this week, I think I just want
to know, because obviously you've been to you were at
that game, what.

Speaker 8 (15:20):
Memories do you have of that game?

Speaker 10 (15:21):
Then I'll hang up and listen. Good to talk to you.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
All right, thanks. I only have one I mean, and
it's one of the greatest plays in Cowboys history. We
did a list not too long ago about greatest non
touchdowns in Cowboys history. You know, there's some great plays
that weren't exactly touchdowns, and I'm pretty sure Dak's flip
right right there near the goal line. It was if

(15:47):
memory serves, it's third and twelve or something like that,
from the from the fourteen yard line or thirteen yard line,
and he goes up the middle and does a flip
and gets to the one and gets first down. And
that that was a huge play because it not only
gave the first down, but you know, took a lot
more time off the clock. They ended up scoring, I think,

(16:09):
to take a two score lead, and then Seattle did
come back and scored a late touchdown, but I don't
think it mattered. I probably had to get an on
site kick. But I remember that play by Dak and
it was Deck's first playoff win, and you know, it
kind of got the monkey off its back a little bit.
But but that that play was a really big play
because it was a football play. You know, It's just
it's just a guy playing football. And that's when I

(16:31):
think Dak is at his best when he's not a
quarterback playing. You know, he's just a football player that
plays quarterback. And and I'm that's just the way I've
always described certain players I've always saw. Walter Payton was
a football player playing running back. Brett Farves was a
football player, plays the position, plays quarterback. And you know,
when Dak is doing that, you know, then now you

(16:54):
have to be the quarterback. I'm not saying you know,
you don't. You just have to go out there and
wing it. But but that was just, hey, there's the
first down. I'm here, I've got to go get this
and I'm gonna do whatever it takes. And you know,
when he's when he's playing like that, then then I
think that he's a much better football player. And I'd
like to see a little bit more of that. And

(17:14):
I don't know if you have to flip like that
and do make those kind of plays, but you do
have to kind of go be a player, and and
he he can do that, and I still think he's
got that in him. All right, let's go to Dylan Northport, Florida. Good,
how are you doing?

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Hey?

Speaker 11 (17:31):
All right, happy birthday, Camilla.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Thank you, thanks for saying that.

Speaker 11 (17:34):
Yeah, it's a good age exciting times.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
I don't know, I don't know about good or anything
as exciting, but it's it's definitely something that's something she's
she's got.

Speaker 11 (17:45):
To I've got a four in a six. Yeah, yeah,
I get it.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Yeah for sure.

Speaker 11 (17:53):
Before I ask my question, I was going to say, boy,
how do the people in the chat that are I
think that the biggest problem with this team is Dak Prescott.
I don't know what to say. I know we want
to tell people how to fan, but you know, go
turn on some tape, go pay for the All twenty two.
It's a hundred bucks a year. Go pay for that
and go watch some of the routes, the strolling interceptions

(18:13):
on not saying Dak's without faults, but my god, to
place the entire franchise on back when there's clearly other
issues going on Dick gets me going a little bit
and it's a little bit frustrating.

Speaker 8 (18:23):
Yeah, but that's.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Not my question.

Speaker 11 (18:27):
Just putting that out there.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
My question for.

Speaker 11 (18:29):
You, And I put this on the Twitter page the
other day, between Tyler Geiton and Mazzie Smith. Which one
do you think the Cowboys need to step up more
this year? What's more instrumental to their success?

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Well, I mean Tyler Goeydon you know, like like I
think it's it's without a doubt it's Tyler Geyiton. And
the reason for that is because of you know, when
when if it doesn't go well, the guy you're talking about,
Dak Prescott, I mean, he feels it. You know, you
may not see it, but he'll deal feel it because

(19:02):
he's you know, he's he's guarding the blind side there.
So I think it's it's Tyler Guidon for sure. When
you look at the supporting cast around the line and
you look at the sporting cast around Mazi. You got
Osa there, you got you know, you drafted some players.
Of course you have Micah, But when you think about
that offensive line, they have to have their left tackle,

(19:23):
uh be a good player. Now he's he's sitting next
to Tyler Smith. There's no doubt about that. But but
he he can make the tight ends better if they
don't have to stay in and help. And so I
just think it's Tyler Guyden for sure.

Speaker 11 (19:35):
Yeah, on the flips that I have a different opinion
on that.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
All right, on the.

Speaker 11 (19:39):
Flip side, you can help Tyler Guidon And you don't
want to write with the tight ends like you just said,
you want them to go out, but you do have
the option to help Tyler Guiton.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
You know.

Speaker 11 (19:49):
The issue with the one technique is you can't really
you can't really help them. Like he's the guy that
helps other people. He helps the linebackers. And the Cowboys
have done a great job and taking one of these
holes they have this off season and turning them into
question marks. Like right now the linebackers are question marks.
They could be good, could not be good. Like Murray's underperformed,
but he has a highest ceiling Sanborn. We don't really

(20:10):
know what to expect his floor and ceiling, but he
could be good. But those guys are not going to
be good if they have offensive linemen in their lap
every single play. I know that free techniques are more
important in Eberflus's system and one techniques, but at the
same time, you know you can't let them lineman get
to the second level all game long. And I don't
want to sit on my couch again this season and
watch teams running for two thirty, two fifty and just
sit there defeated and miserable. So that's not a fun

(20:31):
way to spend a Sunday. Yeah, so you know, I
agree with you and everything you said about Tyler guy,
and I don't think there's a wrong answer on this
when the responses on Twitter were like, fifty fifty is
plit down the middle? Yeah, but you know, I'm just
worried about teams running the ball against us again all
season and I don't know if we've made enough adjustments
on the roster to really fix that problem. Although other
than just maybe Eberflus can bring something different with some

(20:52):
of these edges and interior guys like oh said these
three techniques to do something different than we've seen in
the past.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Right, and that you can said that on the other
side too, you know, because they haven't done a whole
lot of offensive tackle as far as you know, saying, well,
this guy will compete with with Geydon and so you
just like you're thinking, maybe Eberflus can kind of help that. Well,
maybe you know the the scheme of you know, Clayton
Adams and you know, you know Connor Riley as the

(21:19):
O line coach, and they can do some things differently
to kind of help their their linement there. But you know,
I think, I think and Mazzi both have have been
have had really good off seasons. Again, that doesn't always
translate to the to the field, but sometimes it does.
I mean, like I've seen it happen a lot. So
we'll see if they if they make that that jump.

(21:40):
You know, we wanted Mazi to make that year to
jump and okay, he did, but it was he was
pretty far down there, you know. And we'll see if
Geydon can can make it as well. So both of
them didn't have great rookie seasons, say the least, we'll
see if they can turn it around. But you're you're
absolutely right. I mean the answers both. I mean that
they need both. They need with their first round picks

(22:01):
from the last two seasons to to act like it.
And that's that's so. I don't think it's asking too
much to say both of them needed to step it up.

Speaker 11 (22:09):
Yeah, this is make or break form Ozzie at this point. Yeah,
Guiden probably has a little bit longer of a leash.
But if he's as bad as last season, which I
don't think he will be, it sounds like he's moving
in the right direction. But we can't have another season
like last year. He was getting replaced by tou Many
Delica for of all people, So hopefully they both come through.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
All right, thanks Land, appreciate the call. All right, let's
go to Michael and Bowling Green. Michael, what's up man?

Speaker 12 (22:38):
Are you pretty good?

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Okay?

Speaker 12 (22:44):
So, first of all, you gotta tell that order happy
birthday from all the storyline people wishing her happy birthday.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Yeah, well, thank you appreciate that. It's a birthday. It's
a birthday week. I mean, she's been celebrating for a
while here, so oh yeah, that's just that's how it goes.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
Oh yeah, and.

Speaker 12 (23:08):
So I ain't scared. I ain't scared to be optimistic.
I'm ready to go. I'm like I said, fourteen to three.
I'm gonna stand by that until they so they either
you know, make it or they lost more than three.
And I just got a question, Okay, I got a
scenario I'm wondering about from you. All right, Let's say

(23:31):
the first game of the season, the Cowboys beat the Eagle.

Speaker 11 (23:36):
Okay, all right, for the.

Speaker 12 (23:39):
Help and the mental and everything for the next sixteen
to nineteen games, would you rather them be the Eagles
by say sevent to ten points. Would you rather them
blow the Eagles out? Or would you rather them be
the Eagles for the last second sixty two yards field

(24:03):
goal to win the game.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Hmm, Well, I I and I know it's going to happen.
I mean, I'll take a you know, I'll say this,
The plane right home is gonna feel the same either way.
I promise you that. And I've I've experienced that over
the over the time, so that that is cool. All

(24:28):
three scenarios are great, you know, for my heart, I'll
take a blowout over the Eagles. I'll take that just
because the other ones, you know, I don't want to
know if I want to deal with a sixty two
yard er. Sure would be nice to see how quiet
that would be. But when you're down there at the
end of the game, you got to deal with that crap.

(24:50):
You got to deal with those fans, and so if
you're blowing them out, half of them are gone. So
I'll take that. I'll take a blow out over the Eagles.
But either they all they all sound fun. You know,
if those are my three, if those are my only
three options, then this it seems like it would be
a fun night one way or another. What about you,
what's your pick?

Speaker 12 (25:09):
I would like the sixty two yards field goal. Yeah,
we're down one or two and we can only make
it to just not quite midfield and comes out there
sixty two yards just just just drops over the cross.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
It would be it definitely would be memorable. Put your
helmet on for all players when you're running out, I
put your helmet on, because that would be They would
piss off those those drunk Eagle fans for sure. But hey,
that would be a cool scenario, and I think he
could do it. I think he could definitely make it.
But you know, if you give me those three. I'd

(25:52):
like them, you know, I'd like to see Joe Milton
handing the ball off there in the fourth quarter. Yeah,
I'd like to. All right, man, all ahead, appreciate it.

Man?

Speaker 6 (28:19):
If I was any better, i'd be you, buddy.

Speaker 7 (28:21):
Hey.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
First off, happy birthday to your daughter five or five
years old. There's about the age they start realizing they're
the smartest person in the room.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
I thought it was. I thought fifteen was the number,
but it has gone down as the years have gone
on the internet, cell phones and stuff. At five. Yeah, yeah,
very much so.

Speaker 6 (28:45):
Yeah, okay, mister Nick, was gonna talk some running backs today.
You know, you got like, as far as I know,
six people in the room with the two free agents,
Javonte Sanders, two draft these Blue and MafA, and then
you got lip Key and Deuce and there could be

(29:06):
someone else that I don't know about. But let me
just put this way. Let's say, at the whenever we're
starting out, who do you believe will be the ones
out there on the field? Or better yet, I could
ask who do you think will be the odd man
out or odd men out?

Speaker 2 (29:24):
Yeah, that's a good question. I mean, before I'll answer
it offline, I'll flip it around to you, who do
you think is going to be the leader?

Speaker 6 (29:36):
Okay? At the end of it, man, oh man, I'm
thinking Okay, I think they have a plan for Blue,
so I think he's going to be there, yea. And
I kind of do with the other rookie too, So
with me, it's a matter of do they start out
young and run those two or do they go with
like the Javante and Miles thing. I think. I hate

(30:01):
to say this, but I kind of think Miles Induce
could be the ones that yeah, could be getting getting chopped.
But I hate to say that without any knowledge about it.
But so I don't know. Let's go with the let's
go with the rookies. Let's let them get in there
and go, yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
MafA and Blue and then and then you know, one
of them between Javonte and Miles Sanders. I just kind
of feel exactly. I feel like they're both gonna make it,
Miles and Uh and Javonte Williams. And for me, I
think I'm I'm going against the grain by most people,
but I kind of think it's going to be Miles Sanders.

(30:42):
I think he is probably the better of the two backs,
but I think they both do something a little bit different.
And so the wild card here is MafA. If Blue
is gonna make the team, MafA is the one that
if he comes in and does some really nice things
in the preseason and says, you know, we got to

(31:03):
keep this guy, that's going to put pressure on one
of those veterans Javonte and Miles. But if he doesn't
really take the lead there and then you can go
with Blue as your rookie, then they both make it.
But MafA to me is the.

Speaker 6 (31:15):
Wild card, right, Maybe he could, I don't know. Blue
doesn't doesn't make it to practice.

Speaker 8 (31:20):
Squad, but maybe MafA could.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
Maybe depends on what happens in those preseason games and
what he looks like and on that. But yeah, Jayden Blue,
I mean, and if Jaydon Blue hangs onto the football
and can can pass block, you know, well enough to
be trusted out there. If he can hang onto the
ball and be a nice, you know guy to catch
the ball out of the backfield, then he could even start.

(31:44):
You know. I think that that was the knock on him,
was just the fumbling. But if that's not as much
of an issue and he can be the dynamic runner,
then he has a chance to start over over those
two guys right on.

Speaker 11 (31:56):
Man.

Speaker 6 (31:57):
Well, Nick, I appreciate that information because that got me
with Miles. Yeah, I guess he's Look yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
Mean I think he had a pretty good practice last
two practices, and I just you know, he's he's done it.
He's done it. He's been in the Pro Bowl. I mean,
he's had a thousand yard season. That doesn't mean a
lot for running backs because when it's over, it's over
for them. I mean, it's it's a short window for
them to be successful. But I just I liked what

(32:24):
I saw from him the other day. It's hard, though,
with running backs. It's hard to figure out you know,
who's who's gonna be, what who's gonna do. You know
that they they know what their assignments are and then
they know the quickness, speed and burst and all that.
But you know, just from the outside, they they take
every run to the house. You know, they don't get hit.
So it's it's it is kind of hard to see,
you know, is this is this a guy that you know?

(32:45):
Because breaking tackles is the big thing. So when you
see a guy catch the ball out of the backfield
and here comes the linebacker, and the linebacker, you know,
he starts screaming like, ooh, I got you and all that.
I mean, who's to know what's going to happen until
the Pats come on and it's live and all that.
So that's when the best running backs are the ones
that could get you know, take those three yard games
and make it a seven yard game and that changes

(33:07):
the entire play, maybe even the drive. So we'll see
what happens. I think they they're probably both gonna make it,
Davante and Miles Sanders. But it's a good problem to have,
especially if if MafA kind of does his thing and
and shows, you know, the ability to be a violent runner.
All right, let's go to Lester and Minnesota.

Speaker 6 (33:29):
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
Next.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
How's it going man?

Speaker 17 (33:31):
Man?

Speaker 2 (33:32):
How are you doing?

Speaker 4 (33:33):
Hey, I'm doing good up here in Minnesota. Hey, I mean,
I know you guys are there. How's how's the practices going,
especially with my offensive and defensive line or they looking
like out there? I know they're not being hit and
all that, but what's your acception of it. Defensive line, yeah, yeah,

(33:57):
and the offensive line.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Both lines? Yeah, what you're looking like, Well, it's it's
for defense. It's looking like just a healthy rotation. I mean,
just there's just a lot of guys. Uh, it'll weaed
itself out and I'm sure they'll the cream will rise
to the to the top, you know. But but uh,
I think for right now, it looks like they you know,
they're having a lot of options for the defensive line

(34:18):
and then the offensive line that they're moving. They're moving
guys around as well. It's hard to kind of get
a gauge on where some of these players are going
to be. Bb Hoffman, Rob Jones, Awesome Richards. You know,
they're they're they're trying to put them in different positions
because that's what happens in a game. I mean, you
got to see who can who can play what. So

(34:39):
not easy to tell right now. They're not hitting each other,
but but you can tell there's a lot of rotations.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
All right. Well, basically they say that Shotty wants to
run the ball. I think that's the probably the best option.
I mean, of course, we got to pass the ball.
I mean, I'm not saying on the all I'm just
saying again, especially the competition we're playing this year, man, Man,

(35:07):
we need to keep Dak upright and healthy. So to me,
in my opinion, the best way to do that is
to run the ball a lot, right. And you know,
of course, if they're going to crowd the line, of course,
throw the ball or whatever Dyck sees reading the defense,
if he sees.

Speaker 8 (35:27):
Something, throw the ball.

Speaker 4 (35:28):
But I'm just saying I believe the foundation of our team,
our offense this year, should be running the ball because,
like I said, that'll keep the you know, people like
the Kansas City quarterback off the field if we're running
the ball. So that's all I got today, Man, run

(35:49):
that ball, all right, all right, Nick Man, I talk
to you next week, man, Cowboys, all.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Right, appreciate that. You know, Brian and Kansas City had
had that that stat earlier about the twenty eighteen Seahawks
and how they didn't have a lot of dynamic players,
and but yeah, they still found a way to run
the football and they made it obviously made it to
the playoffs, and you know that was kind of their
foundation of success that year. And I think that that

(36:18):
could sort of happen with the Cowboys. I mean, I think,
you know, that's why I just have a feeling that
they're both going to When I say Miles Sanders, Davonte Williams,
and Jayden Blue, I mean there's not a dynamic runner,
but there's there's well I say that now we'll see
if Jayden Blue becomes that. But you know, he's a

(36:39):
fifth round pick. I mean he gets scouted like everybody else,
and and you know, obviously the speed and the pass
catching ability is one thing, but you know, maybe the
lack of size and and also you know, just some
of the fumbling issues. He wasn't like the main starter
for for Texas, but when he got in and he's

(36:59):
used of that, he's used to that kind of rule.
So I think he's gonna fit in nicely of just
coming in and when it's your time, go go shine.
But I think because running the ball is so important
and they don't have that bell cow runner, I think
that they're going to probably keep three there and one week,
you know, you'll see a little bit more of Williams,

(37:20):
maybe morph Sanders, and you know, in another week they'll
be split right down the middle. But I think that
they'll probably play the hot hand when it comes to
the running back position because they don't have that that
stud and it is a priority. But still we'll we'll,
we'll see. I mean, I like what they did. If
they get it blocked up front, then they should be
they should be fun, all right. Next color is Robin Vaas. Hey, Nick, Hey, Rob,

(37:50):
Oh good man, how are you doing.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
I'm good good.

Speaker 18 (37:56):
I have to address a couple of little cold So Dylan, uh,
you know, asked who's more important Mazia a guy, and
I agree with you. It's it's guiding. Because we've seen
when the left tackle doesn't play good or Dak doesn't
trust them, he doesn't play good, right right, So that's
to me, that's that's simple. And I and I think,
I don't think. I think they're going to pick up somebody.

(38:19):
You know, somebody's gonna get cut now, so post June first,
and I think they're going to pick up a big
fatty in the middle there. I don't think they're just
rolling at Mazi. I'm hearing. I'm hearing. You know these
callers say, oh, and he asked. You know, there are
certain people that the biggest concern is Dak and that's

(38:42):
my biggest concern. And it's not because Dak is a
good quarterback. He's a to me, he's a top ten
He's not seventeenth like whoever ranked him that I mean,
and they had Gino Casino ahead of him. I mean,
that's crazy. But he's the most important player on the team.
So if he doesn't play good, you can't win. If

(39:03):
he gets hurt like he has been, you can't win.
So he is my biggest concern, and I need him
to play better against better teams. He struggled, So he's
my biggest concern. Listening to people talk about how this
the Cowboys have to become a great running team. They
got to become a running absolutely not you have a

(39:27):
top three wide receiver. I just said, a top ten quarterback.
You just brought in Pickens. You're hoping your tight end.
I don't need them to be a great running team.
I need them to be a good running team. Get
me more than two yards on first down. You know,
get us in third and five, third and four and
set at third and seven. That's what took place last year.

(39:50):
This team is still going to be a passing team.
They'd be stupid not to because that's what they do best.
And I just like I said, I don't need them
to grind out two hundred yards a game. It wouldn't
happen anyway. And I just need them to be good.
I need them to be efficient. And I think Jaden

(40:10):
Blue is the guy I want on the field more
than the others because he has the juice. Yeah, you know,
the other players, I don't, I don't. I think the
running backs are better this year than one last year
because they're proving proven backs. Who's going to be on
the team, who's going to start? I don't know. But
I think Jaden Blue is the guy that I want

(40:30):
to see on the field just because he could take it.
He could take it to the house.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Yeah, I think you're you're right. I think you know
they're not going to be a great running team. But
if they if the offense, the the weapons you're talking about,
do you know, play up to the expectations, then they're
going to have the lead in certain games, and they
then if you could run it efficiently, then you know,

(40:57):
you will you will probably have you could be a
good running team with great running stats because of you know,
and I think you could say that in the nineties,
that's what the Cowboys were. And yeah, they were a
great running team, but their stats were even better than
that because they were able to run a lot and
that's because of their entire offense.

Speaker 18 (41:16):
So and I mean, that's that's what they I want
to see if it's if we've been running the ball
successful and it's third and two, run the ball, you know,
then you know. What I didn't like is when we
would get eight yards on first down and then Mike
mccauthy decided to throw, just throw, throw throw. We see
it so many times that I want to get away from.

(41:41):
So last week I didn't get a chance to call in,
but I heard a call call me out for Lawrence
Taylor being my.

Speaker 6 (41:49):
Favorite football player.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Is that what you said?

Speaker 18 (41:53):
No, No, Lawrence Taylor is the greatest defensive player that
ever lived. And growing up in New York when I
was in high school, I wore number fifty six because
I played linebacker. Because of Lawrence Taylor. Lawrence Taylor was great,
and to be honest, it was early eighties, eighty two,

(42:14):
the Cowboys were eighty three eight four. The Cowboys were bad,
and Lawrence Taylor was just the man. But my two
favorite Cowboys are Roger Starback because how I became a
Cowboy fan as my father bought me my first uniform
and it was it was the Cowboys. It was Roger Starback.
I was five years old and I had I didn't
even know who he was. I wanted Joe name it,

(42:37):
but it was nineteen seventy two and everybody wanted Joe
name it. But I needed a uniform to go play,
and NAOI had Roger. And my father says, that's Roger Starback.
And that's why I'm a Cowboys fan. And Roger was
my favorite. And then when I was in my early twenties, EMMITTT.
Smith was my favorite because he he was the man.

(42:58):
He was the the most important Dallas Cowboy in the
for the nineties teams and they just posted something on
a Facebook or something saying, who's the greatest running is
Emmitt the greatest? And Emmett is the greatest running back.
I always said Barry Sanders was the greatest runner I've
ever seen. But Emmett did everything and he never left

(43:21):
the field. He blocked, he could catch, he could short yardage.
Barry could not. Barry could not do short yardage.

Speaker 8 (43:28):
He was a.

Speaker 18 (43:29):
Liability blocking and he didn't catch the ball very well. Emmett,
to me, is the greatest all around running back that
I ever saw.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
Yeah, now I don't disagree with that. I mean EMMITTT.
You know, you said when he never came off the field.
When they when he was injured, they weren't the same.
They could win with backup quarterbacks. Berlin won some games
and Steve Wolfs won games all that they couldn't win
without Emmett. They just couldn't. And the Garrett yeah, GARYT. Yeah,

(43:59):
of course. But but and no disrespect to that, you know,
because when I look at that offensive line, you look
at those offensive lines and compare which line was better
as great as the old line was. And people always say, well,
Barry saying it, anyone could have run. They didn't those teams,
those guys didn't run behind them when the backup Sherman
Williams and Derek Lassek and those guys. So yeah, I'm

(44:20):
with you. I think it gets a little EASi the
all time leading rusher. I think he's underrated, if that's
even a thing, because you're right, I don't think. I
don't think people throw in his ability to be durable
and to be out there every single you know, year,
for that long. I mean, that's why his record probably
will never be broken. I mean, and even if they
go eighteen game schedule, it's gonna be hard to break

(44:41):
that record because these runner backs just don't last as long.

Speaker 18 (44:44):
And they don't and there's no belcal running backs really anymore.

Speaker 7 (44:47):
Yeah, uh, and they don't.

Speaker 18 (44:49):
Let's say that, they don't run the ball.

Speaker 11 (44:50):
Don't like that, you know, like they did back then.

Speaker 18 (44:53):
But yeah, it was the man.

Speaker 2 (44:54):
Yeah, well, thanks for the call, Robin, And that's good.
I didn't know that story about about Roger Strawback and
all you ask. You know, we we've done polls on
the greatest Cowboys of all time, top fifty, top sixty lists,
and you know it's it's they're one two right there.
It depends kind of depends on how old you are,
I guess a little bit. But Strawback and emit one

(45:16):
and two. Some people may say, Bob Lily, but the
greatest Cowboys of all time. I mean it's usually those
two and for me and probably because he old I am,
I'll say m A Smith. I mean, just for that
reason that Rob said, so Rob, we're agreeing a little
bit today. I don't know if that's a good or
bad thing. It's always good. Let's go to Casey Joe
as our next caller.

Speaker 19 (45:37):
Casey, He's good morning, Nick. How are you doing today, sir?

Speaker 12 (45:40):
How are you good?

Speaker 19 (45:42):
I was thinking about our offense with that speed coming in,
with the wide receivers blue in the backfield. I'm just thinking, man,
the offense could look really good this year.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
But could it really could? I mean, there's some things
that have to go right, but that's the way it
is every year. But yeah, yeah, I mean if there's
always there needs to be a couple of guys that
are these swing players. Can they take it to the
do they make that leap and always, you know, like
Doron Bland did on the other side, like Jake Ferguson
did a couple of years ago. Who's gonna make that

(46:15):
leap that you think is a good player that actually
became a great player, And if they can get two
or three of those. Then I think this team has
a chance to be to be really good too.

Speaker 7 (46:26):
I do.

Speaker 4 (46:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 19 (46:29):
Well, I didn't have much to say, but I just
thought i'd say good morning.

Speaker 8 (46:32):
And okay and.

Speaker 19 (46:33):
Oh and uh, you know, I think they should change
the name of the girls talk boys talk to hanging
with the girls and talking about the boys.

Speaker 6 (46:40):
See, that's what.

Speaker 19 (46:41):
They need to change that name to.

Speaker 20 (46:44):
Anyway, have a good.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Day, all right, sounds good. Yeah, I'll stay in my
own lane on that one and just we'll worry about
the storyline on that one and let other people change
names that they want to. I'm gonna go to break
here on Cowboys storyline. I'll be right back after.

I do have a question, but I just want to
give you a quick story. Everybody asked me, how do
you live in New York and whole families giant fans,
and how do you become a Dallas Cowboy fan? Yeah,
quick story about my dad. He you grew up in
the children's home in Sarah Toogas Rings as a kid,
and the guy that ran the children's home was a

(49:04):
huge Cowboy fan, and he would tell my father. You'd
be like, hey, Bob, He's like, if you if you
do all your chores, he'll be week, you know, and
you act right and you're you know, you're a good kid.
He's like, every Sunday, I'll let you come in here
and in the office and we'll watch the Dallas Cowboys game.
So that's how my dad became a Dallas Cowboy fan.

(49:24):
And it's like I tell the story all the time
because it's in New York and everybody giants and they
always asked how to become a Cowboy fan. Well, that's
that's how we all became a Cowboys fan.

Speaker 2 (49:34):
That's two stories in a row, now from you and
from from Rob in Vegas. And again it's I say
it all the time. You don't choose to be a
cowboy fan. It chooses you. And that's that. You didn't
choose that. He could have been any team, but you're
you were just trying to you know, trying to hang
out there and and with the with the boss and

(49:54):
uh yeah, or he was he was your dad was, Yeah,
but he passed.

Speaker 4 (49:59):
It on to you.

Speaker 2 (49:59):
You didn't choose that either, And so I love it.
It's it's great, I know. All right.

Speaker 8 (50:05):
My question to you, what's your thoughts on the big
situation with him not working out with the best rehab
person that I know? Uh, what's your thoughts on him
working on on the zone and not being with the
team right now?

Speaker 2 (50:22):
It's not great. I mean, it's not a great situation
at all. You know, you're right the you know, the
the rehab team they have here with Jim Ayer, Britt Brown,
Greg gaitheror those guys. Uh, they're they're they're the best
and and or they you know they I say they're
the best. They're really great at what they do. I
don't know where it ranks with others. They're really great

(50:45):
at what they do. Their track record speaks himself. And
not being here, it's there's more to it than just
rehabbing here. It's also you know, it's also being around
the guys and and and being part of the action.
So yeah, it's disappointing and and and it's it's not
you know, it doesn't bode well for the future in

(51:05):
my opinion. But because these rehabs, there's good days, there's
bad days, there's you know, and you you want to
kind of figure out how you know how to handle
these things. All right, today, we're only gonna do this,
We're gonna do that. And then all of a sudden,
when it's mandatory, he's gonna get here and and the
trainer is going to be like, well did you do
this and this and this? And it's just the communication

(51:27):
is just not gonna be good. He I think he
should be here, and it's unfortunate that he's not.

Speaker 8 (51:32):
Do you do you think it's a possibility that they
trade him?

Speaker 2 (51:37):
Nothing? Nothing would surprise me at this point. Yeah, I think,
of course, I think that would be a possibility. For
what I don't I don't know. I mean stories. You know,
it's the Internet, so stories are nationwide, so everyone what
my point is, everyone knows what's happening. So it's not like,
you know, they'll be I don't I don't know what
the market will look like. I don't know. I don't

(51:58):
know if it's if it's gonna be a terrible situation before.
I mean, he came back last year from an ACL injury.
I thought he played pretty well. This is a different
injury though. This is not just a standard ACL knee injury.
This this one's a little bit more serious. And so
we'll see. Though you know right now it is mandatory.
Maybe he'll be back you know, for the for the

(52:21):
voluntary I mean for the stuff that's I mean, it's
it's voluntary now. Maybe he'll be back for mandatory and
then stay stay longer as well.

Speaker 8 (52:28):
Didn't have that same yeah that he had.

Speaker 2 (52:32):
Yeah, it took a little bit of time, but he
came back and he played well. But different type of
player in different position obviously. Noah Brown is a big, strong,
physical receiver and you know, it wasn't dynamic played it
never has been a dynamic player, uh not asked to
go cover the fastest players in the world. So a
little different when when you're talking about corners receivers and

(52:55):
you know he gets the side when he wants to
cut and cornerbacks don't, and so you know, we'll we'll
we'll see if that's if that's how it all factors in.
But yeah, you would like to see him here, and
everybody would want to see uh, you know, hit him
here and rehappen and and and you know, trying to
get better as quickly as he can.

Speaker 8 (53:16):
All right, happy birthday to your daughter. This party goal
is better than the last.

Speaker 2 (53:20):
Yeah, thank you, appreciate it has to be. All right,
let's go to Sebastian Savannah, Georgia.

Speaker 21 (53:26):
What are you doing, mister Evens?

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Good? How are you?

Speaker 21 (53:28):
I'm doing just fine. Happy birthday to the little lady.
You know, shout out all the girl dads out here, got.

Speaker 7 (53:32):
Two of them, mount there you go.

Speaker 21 (53:34):
Hey, how you guys doing today?

Speaker 2 (53:38):
We're good, man, We're good. What do you got on
your mind?

Speaker 21 (53:41):
Hey, I'm doing great. I was just looking at the
schedule and working it out. I think the first team
to get to eleven wins can win this division for
the NFC. Yeah, so I think, you know, I got it.
I had it going in and seventh. We got to
find a way to get that eleventh win. But as
far as the first game of the season goes. I
think we pull that off. And here's the reason for that.
We have a lot of our starters working back from

(54:02):
injury and it's gonna take at least a couple of
weeks for everything in the jail. And you're talking about
three of our five starting corners are coming back to Faith,
two of the best wide receivers in the league, who
just came off of a Super Bowl, the highly emotional game.
They're gonna be dropping their banner. They're going to want
to book your butt at home. So if we drop
that game and it's a very competitive game, I'll be
very happy with the performance there. Like you say, no

(54:24):
moral victories, it's a loss of a loss, but I
think we go ten and seven for sure. We got
to find a way to get an end to the eleventh
game in there and try to win this division because
it's going to probably come down to a type breaker
between Washington and whoever the last team is in this division. Yeah, yeah,
that's it for me.

Speaker 6 (54:40):
Man.

Speaker 21 (54:40):
You guys have a great day, machine Man, and I
up and.

Speaker 2 (54:42):
Listen appreciate it. I mean, yeah, I mean there are
moral victories. I mean I believe that, and I still
agree with the other part. A loss is a loss
and it counts the same. It's all the reason why
I say that about moral victories. Whatever it's it's just
it's how you respond. And that's just that's a motto

(55:03):
of life. It's how how do you respond? And how
do you respond? For the good and the bad. But
but you know, how are you taking a tough loss?
Of guy it? Michael from Bowling Greens put out these
three scenarios about he would love to see a sixty
two yard field goal win the game. You know, go
win the game and beat the Eagles. Okay, what if

(55:23):
it hit What if it hits the crossbar? You know,
what if it what if it hits the post and
goes off? And how gut wrenching would that be? Okay, well,
what happens in week two? I mean, what what happens
after that when you go play the Giants at home?
That's that's why week two is always important to me,
So win, lose, whatever it is. I mean, I just

(55:47):
I think it's it's how you handle certain things and
if and if you know, if you if you can
figure out a way to bounce back after a tough loss,
then and you know, and that's why I always think
that Tampa Bay game when twenty is it? I guess
it was twenty twenty two when they maybe it was

(56:08):
twenty one. It was twenty one when they went to
Tampa Bay and lost a very close game. You know,
they were the defending champs. Same thing, Thursday night football
and the banners raised and Tom Brady and they had
they had him on the ropes and they lost in
final seconds. That was tough. That was a tough loss.
Came back won five in a row after that, though,
So you know, was that a moral victory? In my opinion,

(56:29):
it was because I think that they everyone they fared
better than they thought, and they came back and then
they bounced back from it and they said, all right,
we're gonna be all right, And they were all right.
They were twelve and five teams. So if you handle
it the right way, then you know, you can you
can have some losses and still and they could still
help the team. Uh, but you know, you can have

(56:49):
some wins that that don't help the team if you
don't handle it the right way. So I think there's
two sides to it, As Parcells would say, two sides
to that pancake. All right, A couple more calls here,
Josh and Nick.

Speaker 4 (57:01):
How you been good man?

Speaker 2 (57:02):
How are you?

Speaker 22 (57:03):
Oh my gosh. I've been trying for the past two
months to get in like crazy, so I'm so happy
to get through and talk to you today.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
Oh man, how you doing?

Speaker 10 (57:11):
You know, I'm uh.

Speaker 22 (57:13):
I'm happy there's football because I'm a White Sox fan.
So you want to talk about some misery. One hundred
and twenty one games of Dying hard is misery?

Speaker 2 (57:20):
Man? Yeah?

Speaker 22 (57:21):
So looking a little Yeah, the team's looking a little
bit better this year, but you know, talking football, it's
been a couple months. So I just got to say, first,
thank you so much for the All Storyline team. When
you announced it, I was like, no way, I'm making
it if I didn't make honorable mention. So once I
saw a second team, I was like, thank god, that's awesome.

Speaker 21 (57:38):
So thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (57:39):
Yeah, thank you, thank you for dedication and calling and
doing what it takes to get in.

Speaker 8 (57:44):
Yep.

Speaker 22 (57:44):
And then I know it's a little bit old, but
I kind of wonder what was thinking here? What kind
of grade would you give the off season acquisition so far?
And I say so far, because hopefully Mike's contract gets
done and they can sign another cornerback or detackle. But
I really like what they've done so far with Samber
and pick in Solomon Thomas, those type of guys. Even
the running backs I think are smart pickups, hoping that

(58:06):
they can get you know, maybe Gilmore back or somebody
else who's a cornerback with some experience. With the injuries there,
maybe you know, once some cap you know, freeze up
or something happens with Micah, then they can go out
and sign another cornerback there or pick up another d tackle.
But good to talk with you, and I'll jump off
the phone line, all.

Speaker 2 (58:23):
Right, great, thanks for the call, Josh. Great grades for
you know, I mean, obviously the grade is an I.
It's incomplete, It's always been incomplete. But but you know,
I'll play a long I mean, like, I think it's
been a A B plus and and some people would

(58:44):
say maybe an A that's based off of the expectations
of what they've done in the past. But but you know,
I think they had they weren't overly aggressive and free agency,
but they they did pick up more players than they've
had in the past, and I think that just comes
down to the fact that you're a seven and ten team,
you had a lot of free agents. You know, are

(59:05):
your guys better than the guys that are out there
and a lot of seasons the answer is yes, So
keep your guys, and fans don't even call that free agency. Really,
I don't think fans are sitting here thinking, you know,
if the Cowboys had signed a defensive tackle for four
years eighty million from another team, I think they would
be more excited about it than just resigning Osa for

(59:28):
that price. But it still counts still free agent. He
was almost out the door and they got him, So
I'd say p plus it's been pretty good, has a
chance to be higher than that, and we'll see if
they add some more guys. And you said that about
maybe signing Mica to get another player. They can get

(59:50):
whoever they want right now, Like they've got the money
to go do that kind of stuff if they wanted to.
And the reason why those guys whoever's available, they want
to be avail. You know, they're not begging for a
job right now. They probably had a huge fan of
the offseason program, or don't need that right now, or
rehabing an injury or whatever it is, and getting themselves

(01:00:11):
ready to play when it matters. So there's a reason
why players are on the street right now, and it's
usually two ways. All right, let's go to Jeremy and DC.

Speaker 20 (01:00:23):
Hey, Yo, Nick, what's up, man?

Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
How are you doing?

Speaker 20 (01:00:26):
I'm doing, man, I'm doing good. Book.

Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
How you doing, buddy, It's been a minute.

Speaker 20 (01:00:31):
Yeah, Man. The last time I told I got disconnected,
I was out in West Virginia working troup.

Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
All right, all right, he yeah, I was.

Speaker 20 (01:00:41):
Trying to get through.

Speaker 8 (01:00:42):
Man.

Speaker 20 (01:00:42):
I had to call one day. I called over like
one hundred and some times.

Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
I'm sorry, I'm glad you got through today, man, what
do you got?

Speaker 7 (01:00:51):
All right?

Speaker 20 (01:00:52):
So my number for the day, because I've been forgetting
for the last couple of times, but my number for
the day. This was gonna be tough for you because
be found one other player with this number, number twenty,
Tony Pollin's old number. Right, So this is kind of
a trivia question for you. At the same time, let
me see if you can guess that one. And then

(01:01:12):
I just want to say, man, I'm I'm I'm I'm
glad that we been making free agent moves. Man, I'm
so happy with the moves they've been making. Only thing
that I need them to do is get like a
veteran defensive tackle to you know, something like Hankerson to
help out, you know, when Mazie and them guys get tired,

(01:01:34):
and to show them guys how to be professional, because
there's no really like no veteran in the defensive tackle rooms.
So I just think that they just need a veteran
to show them guys and lead them guys, show them
how to be more professional, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Yeah, well, so what are you asking me about twenty?
You just just name another number twenty.

Speaker 20 (01:01:56):
So usually, you know, usually I'll give you a number
and then I'll if you could think of another player
with that same exact number, and if you have a
story about that player or a story about a player
with that same exact number.

Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
All right, well I've got three other number twenties. So
and I know I know those weren't that, but I
mean Ron Springs from the from the eighties. I mean
Ron Springs was it was great, it was he was
a really good player and of course, you know, great
story there sad sad ending to his his life. But

(01:02:32):
you know, Derek Ross wore number twenty. I think at
one point it might have switched to twenty one too.
Ray Horton Ray Horton were War twenty as a veteran
corner there in the early nineties. So I know there's
there's more than that, but those are those are the
ones that come to mind for me.

Speaker 20 (01:02:49):
So all right, okay, all right, all right, man, And
I want to say thank for the third team mentioned there.

Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
You got all.

Speaker 20 (01:03:00):
I'm trying to get in more than I can.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Man, sounds good.

Speaker 10 (01:03:04):
Don't hurt nobody, all right, we won't.

Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
We won't for sure. Thank you, Jeremy. Let's go. This
will be our last caller today. Ronnie in New Jersey, Ronnie,
what's up? Man?

Speaker 7 (01:03:13):
Hey? How you doing? Nick?

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
Good?

Speaker 7 (01:03:16):
Well, I'm pretty good. First of all, I wanted to
say congratulations to your daughter for happy birthday. Congratulations to
Christmas kids for I know they won a couple of
championships or are doing pretty good in their baseball teams,
so congrats to them. And so I know everybody's asking
you about, you know, the roster and this, this and that,

(01:03:39):
but I was gonna ask you considering everything they've done
this year. I mean they they have made moves like
this in a while, right, Like it's been a few
years since Jerry Jones and the staff has made these
many moves trades and stuff like that. So do you
see them going like into training camp and you know,

(01:04:00):
not waiting until later in the season and stuff like that.
If they see like they're missing holes like a defensive
tack or or anything like that, you see them making
a move. I mean, considering everything they've done and everything
they're doing for your new head coach, our new head coach,
which I mean, the guy seems like he's putting this
team in the right direction and and everybody's like in

(01:04:21):
on it now. Everybody's in right now. So I was
just wondering, like, are they going to continue to making
moves if they see according to how the boss is
going you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
Well, I mean they did that last year. Yeah, I mean,
that's one thing that Mike McCarthy did a lot of
was make moves towards the you know, start of the
of the season and right you know, during training camp.
I mean Anthony Barr, Jason Peters last year trading for
was Jordan Phillips. I mean yeah, I mean they they

(01:04:57):
they've done that a lot. So I don't know if
at that well will change, if that mindset changes, but no,
Linval Joseph was another one. So yeah, that's something that
they have done in the past. This has been a
little bit more unique of the trades early, but yeah, yeah,
you're always going to do that. You're gonna fill some
holes and and and and so yes, I think that

(01:05:19):
will certainly happen. And let's let's just not forget that
this past coaching staff did that too, but not to
the level not that we've seen this year and this early.

Speaker 7 (01:05:31):
And that that's my question because I've seen that they've
traded for some players. Hey we needed a wide receiver.
We desperately needed by receiver. They thought they were going
to get him in the draft, but hey, you know
what they made that move to get that that wonder
that receiver they really needed or for this team to
to prosper and even the offensive side, are they are

(01:05:52):
they going to continue? That's what I was wondering, Like, Wow,
I mean Jerry Jones, there they're going in like it's
like last year he went up he did it a
season league you know how he was we're all in,
We're all in, and everybody was, what's he talking about?
He hasn't done anything, but this year it's like, you know,
it came in a little bit later, so he's actually
we're all in next year. Yeah, because of the moves

(01:06:15):
they made, right, But I was just wondering, like if
it seems like, hey, this run defense is going to
be a problem, you know what, let's let's make a train,
Let's let's get somebody that could actually help us with
the bun defense stuff like that.

Speaker 9 (01:06:28):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (01:06:28):
But you know, thanks for taking my call, Naked. I'll
listen to you on the other side.

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
All right, appreciate it, Thanks, Ronnie. Uh yeah, you know,
it is funny this this does seem a little bit
more all in like than than what we saw last year.
But yeah, I mean, I don't think that they're done
making moves, but I do think that they've they've made
a lot already, more than than the normal. But they

(01:06:53):
still you know that there are players, it's not just
the Cowboys Fosphy. There are players that are that are
getting themselves ready to go for this time of year.
I mean, and they maybe they don't want to go
to camp or they you know, they're they're they don't
feel like they need to they're not even looking to sign,
or their price tag will we'll will drop when it

(01:07:14):
gets to that that point one way or another, though,
there there's always a market for some players that are
still out there that aren't ready to sign just yet.
So we'll see if the Cowboys decide if they want
to go that route. All right, it's been a good show,
really good show. Appreciate you guys calling in, and we
will do it again next Wednesday. Stay tuned for the
schedule might be a little bit different with what you

(01:07:35):
got the mini camp next week, but Chris Beam will
have it all figured out for you and hopefully we'll
be on normal time next Wednesday. All right for Chris Beam,
Nick Eatman, see you next week on the Cowboys story line.
