Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
This is these Cowboys storyline with Nick Eapman.

Speaker 4 (00:21):
What's up? Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. It is Wednesday, May
twenty eight. I'm Nick Eatman, and let's talk some Cowboys
football for you for the next hour and a half
or so. I want to hear from you guys. Eight
eight eight A five five two two nine seven. The
Cowboys are in the middle of their OTA practices. They
got a couple more weeks of OTAs I think, and

(00:42):
then yeah, two more weeks of OTA's and then a
three day mini camp in the middle of June, and
then that's it until training camp starts in late July.
Mid to late July. Cowboys. Keep moving that date up
a little bit, we'll be there. Looks like practices will
be starting at that last week in July. Will be

(01:02):
there around May twentieth. I'm sorry, May twenty July twentieth
and twenty first is when Cowboys will be getting there.
I don't know if that's official yet, but it's around
that time and practice will start after that. But let's
talk about what they're They're doing right now, with OTAs
still still adding some pieces. I would think before we

(01:24):
get to training camp. I don't think that this roster
is completely set. That never really is. So we'll see
what kind of moves they might make, and I'll hear
from you guys on what do you think they should do.
Let's talk about it here, and let's go to our
first caller who's been holding for a little bit, Zach
in Germany. Zach, what's up?

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Nick? How you doing, buddy?

Speaker 4 (01:44):
I'm good? How are you good?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Happy Memorial Day? Just take a moment reflect on all
those bets and what that sacrifice was. So I hope
you had a good moment with your family.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Of course, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yes, last week I had through some softball that This week,
I want to bring it a little bit harder, play villain.
I want to start. I'm gonna bring the heat, and
before I hang up, I got to call out one
of our captains, but I'll save that for the end,
all right, So start with the running back room. I
think we had a great draft. However, running back room

(02:16):
scares me a little bit. Right now. It looks like
Javonte is going to be the probably RB one. I
know we have Blue and a couple other guys, but
one of the highlights some stuff with Javonte that makes
me concerned. Last year his his yards after contact. He
was ranked thirty seven out of you know, all the
starting running backs and there's only thirty two, so yep,

(02:39):
yards after contact is a concern. And he only had four,
uh broken tackles for reference. The leader of that, of
course was Derrick Henry he had forty two. So when
you look at some of those stats and he's he's
now going to be going into year three removed from
that knee injury, I'm a little concerned with the running
back room. Doesn't mean that we're out of the running

(03:00):
for making a trade or doing some other things, but
I wanted to get your thoughts on the running back
situation if I was looking at it now prior to camp,
it looks like, in my opinion, probably Miles Sanders is
a odd man out along with Duce Vaughan. But I
want to get your thoughts on that linebackers. If we're
going to go into our base defense, who do you
think are starting three linebackers? And then the last note,

(03:23):
like I said before I hang up, I got to
call out Rob real Quick. Two weeks ago. Two weeks ago,
he had mentioned his favorite player of all time was
a New York Giant, Lawrence Taylor. I know he's a
New Yorker. I'm a former New Yorker myself, but man,
that one, that one hurts a little bit. So I
want to get your thoughts on that, and I'll hang
up and listen.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
All right, thanks, Zach. I guess I didn't remember him
saying that his favorite player of all time is Lawrence Taylor.
But you know, I mean, if he did, he did,
I mean that it's okay. I mean like that, that
doesn't mean that's his favorite team. Uh, you know, the

(04:03):
Giants obviously not his favorite team. But if he you know,
that's one of his favorite players. I mean, Deon Sanders
was was one of my favorite players. All right, Thanks
for the calls, Act, thanks for the call all right.
Uh you know Dion Randy Moss. I mean, those guys
are some fun players to watch. They they did a
lot of their damage against the Cowboys. So you know

(04:24):
that's fine. We don't need to get into all of
that on on whose favorite player. Maybe. I mean, I'm
sure he meant it more, but one of the best
players of all times. All right, let's let's go backwards
on the questions here for linebacker. You said, if they
go across the board on linebacker, uh in their base defense,
who would it be? I mean, I would imagine early
in the season, if if Overshown isn't back yet, I

(04:46):
would say, you know, you're looking at at Kenneth Murray,
Leah foul Samborn as as as those three guys. Overshown
wool factor into that obviously, if he's here, probably you know,
I would think at some point maybe knock out Sanborn.
But who knows, I mean, who knows how all that develops.

(05:06):
But that's a good problem to have. You got three
solid linebackers. I think Overshown coming back would be really
good there, and I imagine that he would. I think
things have the narrative on that I think has changed
in the last few weeks or so. I think now
there's a little bit more optimism that he can come back,
especially with what he looks, you know, out at practice

(05:27):
right now, just some of the rehabbing that he's doing
with our brace. I think, in my opinion, he looks
ahead of schedule. Again, not certainly not a rehab trainer
there for his knee, So I don't know exactly what
they're asking him to do, but it does look a
little bit more promising than I think we thought. As
for the running back spot, yeah, I mean all it

(05:51):
takes is one player two or here, two or three
plays where now everything changes for what the perception at
running back. And so right, just because Davonte Williams took
some snaps at the first then you know that doesn't
mean he's going to be the guy. And and and
you know we've seen sometimes running backs can kind of uh,

(06:13):
you know, resurrect their career a little bit. But probably
it is what it is as far as what Javonte Williams,
what type it back he's going to be. You know,
they're going to try the committee approach, I would think.
But you know, they would love for Jayden Blue to
take this thing over. But but he's going to have
to prove that he can do that obviously, And and yeah,

(06:35):
there's I'm not I'm not saying that they won't go
and make a make a move there. So I'm just
not as worried about the running back position as long
as because I love what they did It's not like
they went with Bass and Hoffman and then there they're
going with other runs. They went with the first round pick.
They're trying to get better right up the front with
their offensive line. You get better at the at the

(06:56):
offensive line, then I think. I'm not saying you could
plug anyone in there, but I think it changes on
who you can put in there. And so that's what
I like. They're kind of approaching this inside out, getting
the offensive line as good as it can be, and
then after that, well we'll see what the running back
physician looks like. To me, I think Sanders is. I

(07:19):
ultimately think he's going to be the starting running back.
I don't know why. I just feel like that that
will be the guy. You said he's the auto man out.
I kind of think he might be the guy to start.
That just goes to show what crazy running back situation
they have here. You've got guys. Some of the guys
could be the starter, some of them could be the
automn out. All right, let's go to Chris and Saratoga Springs.

(07:40):
Is that our next caller? Chris?

Speaker 5 (07:43):
Brian?

Speaker 4 (07:44):
I don't see him on my list, Brian, what's up? Brian?

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Hey, Good morning, miss Eatman. How are you?

Speaker 4 (07:49):
How are you doing?

Speaker 6 (07:51):
I'm all right, man. I wish I was in Saratoga Springs.
It sounds like a cool place to visit, it.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Does, doesn't it?

Speaker 7 (07:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Absolutely?

Speaker 8 (07:58):
Man.

Speaker 6 (07:59):
Hey, so I'm kind of following up on what the
last caller said and just in you know, like what
concerns you and obviously the running back room concerns him. Yeah,
and uh so for me, it's the defensive one tech
and of course cornerback. And here's here's my thoughts, and

(08:21):
then I'll hang up and listen to what you have
to what you think about it. I'm wondering, you know,
just looking at what we have at one tech, I'm wondering.
I mean, you know, it's third, the third defensive scheme
and coach in three years. You don't know who's gonna
like too, right, So I don't know what they're going
to get out of MASI obviously. And then we got
the two seventh round seventh round picks, and the guy

(08:44):
from last year is still here, and maybe somebody will
emerge out of that bunch, but I think maybe the
starter's not on the roster right now.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
Just my thought.

Speaker 6 (08:57):
And then at corner. I actually don't want them to
go and get help because we got so many people
coming back. If they go out and get help, I
think that stops somebody from getting on the field. Well
you know, who's the help they get healthy? Who's they
get healthy?

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Who's the help and who's the somebody? You know what
I mean? Like like that, that's yeah, I've heard of
progress stoppers before, you know. I mean Deon Sanders stopped
the progress of a Londus Bryce when he was here
in nineteen ninety five. I mean, I think that was okay.
So you know what I'm saying, Like progress stoppers is
not always a bad thing if you're getting the right
type of guy in here. So are you talking about

(09:33):
like a Kaylin Carson that that wouldn't get on the
field or Revel maybe because you're bringing another guy in.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
Well just look at it. I mean, if everybody's healthy,
we have a good room. Yes, So you know, once
and at some point next year, you know, barring another
new injury, that's gonna happen, you know, with Rebel and
Bland and Digs, I would love to I would really
like to see Elam and Carson and what was the

(10:03):
other guy that we laughed as we said, he played
his butt off last year. Butler, Josh, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I would love to see them at least get a chance.
Sometimes a change of venue helps the guy, and maybe
that's the case Freedom. You know, he was he was
well regarded coming out of college. I don't know what
happened in Buffalo, but yeah, but he was. You know,

(10:25):
he was thought well of on all the draft shows.
So that's that's my thoughts. And like I said, with
the one tech, I'm wondering if there's if that starters
even on the roster.

Speaker 7 (10:35):
Man.

Speaker 6 (10:36):
I'll hang up and listen to your answer.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
All right, Brian, thanks for the call. You know, one
thing I'll say about the defensive tackle spot, and you're right,
you get a new coaching scheme in here. They like
who they like, and they they you know, they have
their favorites and all that. And Ebra I'll just say this,
Ibra Flus had a strong influence in the room undrafting.
I mean, I think it is. Iraku is probably a

(10:59):
big example of that. Where they were looking at another position,
they were looking at corner and and kind of in
the same boat as the rebel, you know, maybe getting
a guy that that's that was somewhat banged up, but
you know, he's still a good, good player. But as
a Raku was the one that that he wanted. Eberflus,

(11:20):
I say this to say that if if they thought
there was a that they couldn't get anything out of Mazi,
that there was no one technique here that I don't
think they wait till the seventh round to to to
get a Jay Toya, you know what I mean. So
I feel like they feel like that they they have
something there. And I did talk to Eberflus about before

(11:44):
they had signed re signed Osa and Mazzi, and you know,
it was sort of off the record, just kind of
just chatting there when he first got here, and he
said he really really likes Osa and he really likes Mazzi.
So it's one thing to say that. It's another thing
to come back and say, well, you know, we didn't
draft and when you know, it's not like they were saying,

(12:04):
we love these guards we have and then they go
and they draft Tyler Booker. I mean it's a little
bit different. So they didn't do it make any moves
at defensive tackle really other than than adding Solomon Thomas,
who's really more of a three technique, and I think
he'll he'll have a nice rotation with Osa. But as
far as the one goes, you know, if they're saying
that they like Mazie, it looks like it because they're

(12:27):
they're going to give him, you know, a good opportunity
to take this job and and and keep it. I guess.
All right, Now we go to Chris and Saratoga Springs,
New York.

Speaker 7 (12:37):
Heynck, How are you good?

Speaker 4 (12:39):
How are you doing good?

Speaker 7 (12:40):
The Belmont's coming to Saratoga Springs coming up in about
a little over a week.

Speaker 9 (12:44):
All right, Oh yeah, looking forward to that.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
The Belmont Stakes. Is that that's a Saratoga Spring Is
it always.

Speaker 8 (12:50):
There or are they just moving around now?

Speaker 7 (12:52):
They moved into Saratoga while they're working on Belmont in
New York. I got you. Last year was the first
year was away from Belmont. So this year he'll be
back in Saratoga and then it'll be back in Belmont
the following year.

Speaker 8 (13:03):
The track are you.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
Are you like a trifactor guy super fa?

Speaker 3 (13:06):
You know?

Speaker 4 (13:07):
It was it that I'm more of the exact guy,
exact box? Do you box?

Speaker 7 (13:12):
For sure?

Speaker 4 (13:13):
You have to box. Yeah, okay, you.

Speaker 7 (13:15):
Have to box it because I'm always gonna lose im.

Speaker 8 (13:17):
It's trade.

Speaker 7 (13:17):
It's all going to be the opposite every time.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm dangerous at those places, and not
in a good way, not in a good way. First
time I've ever been to a horse track, I was like,
this is awesome, But why do I have to wait
twenty five minutes to the next race? So I will
go inside to all the TVs and I'm just I'll
just go and and and make bets on other uh
you know, yeah, like over losing it downs or something

(13:40):
like that. I don't know anything. I just like I
can't wait twenty five minutes for the next race. So yeah,
good times, good times.

Speaker 7 (13:46):
It is good times. I just want to talk about
the running back situation. I'm not really worried about it
like you. I think if the offensive line steps up
and like they I think they're gonna this year and
make that leap. I'm not saying you can put anybody
back there, but Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, I mean they're
all in there running backs to drafted. He didn't even
do fun. They're capable enough. If our line's doing what

(14:09):
I think they're going to do this year. I think
they're going to do well. My main concern for me.
You just talked about a defensive tackle. I really do
like the kid we drafted. I think Dane Brugler had
him as like a fourth round draft pick range. Yes,
I do. I do like him, and I'm hoping, you know,

(14:30):
that could help us in the defensive tackle position. But
I'm more worried about the defensive tackle position. I'm not.
I'm really not concerned with the running back really at all.
To be honest with you.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
Yeah, well, who do you think is the best one? Though?

Speaker 7 (14:43):
I like Davonte Williams. I heard a report that he
said he's the healthiest he's been. He said he wasn't
even one hundred percent last year, and he said he's
the knee and he's as healthy as he's ever been.
Well since the injury, obviously, but if he's healthy, I
love him. Coming out of college, he had a really
good rookie year in Denver. I think if he's back

(15:06):
to the Jabaki Williams that everybody thought he was going
to be coming out of college, I think he's gonna
he's gonna do great things with Dallas.

Speaker 4 (15:12):
Yeah, and I think so too. You have anything else, Chris, Nope,
that's it right, Thanks for the call always. Yeah. I mean,
you gotta remember when they're when they talk about when
Clayton is it Clayton Adams, When when they're talking about
what kind of running game they want, and you know,

(15:33):
have this physical, violent type of running style. I think
he fits the mold of what they're trying to do there.
So you know, again, different players in different schemes, I
think he might work a little bit better than what
they're trying to do. You know, James Connor in Arizona
may not work as as good as in other schemes
as I think he did there in Arizona. And when

(15:54):
you talk about running backs, you guys, are you're talking
about which player? I just I'm seeing NFL Network on
the screen and they got the top I guess, top fifty,
top one hundred plays of all time. I just can't
imagine Tony dors Sets run is number thirty five on
the list. There's that ninety nine yard runs. You're not
going to find a longer run. You're certainly not going
to find another one with ten players on the field.

(16:14):
I can't imagine there's thirty four better plays in the
history of the NFL than a ninety nine yard run
shorthanded run at that for a Tony Doors set. But
maybe it's because he was my favorite player of all time.
And I remember the game. I remember. I didn't get
to watch it because it was Monday night football, had to
go to bed, but I do remember that that game.
I can't imagine they're being better. But anyways, you talk
about the running back position, and I agree. I think

(16:38):
as long as that line is fixed, I think more
guys will be able to I think it will be
opened up to see who can could win that job.
But I'm not as worried about it. All right, here's
another person. I'm not as worried about it as I
was before, and at least I hope not. And that's
Randy in Texa, Canada.

Speaker 8 (16:57):
Randy, how we doing doing great? Brother's getting better every day?

Speaker 4 (17:02):
That is so good. Every time every time I look
when you when you call in, I get excited because
I'm like, man, he's back again.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
Yep.

Speaker 8 (17:12):
Hopefully everything will get back to normal here real soon.
I did get a little bit of a set back
on my news.

Speaker 10 (17:19):
I hadn't found out yet, but.

Speaker 8 (17:21):
I thought I was gonna be able to escape having
to do treatments and chemo's and all that. And uh
my surgeon said, no, hold on on that, just for
a little bit. I still have to go to the
the cancer doctor, and he's gonna let me know if
I have to do add at. So that's still up
in there.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
But you stay off the tractor, how about that?

Speaker 5 (17:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (17:42):
That's hard, man. I'm getting a little stir crazy. But
so I'm always the type of person at lunch for
the good in anything that's bad. I've just I've always
been that way. But for some reason something sticking out
to me, and it's it's the opposite. Andess with the
Pickings deal, I love that we got him. I think

(18:03):
he's gonna be awesome. But I'm wondering if the Cowboys
is already handling this the wrong way. Everybody, the players,
the coaches, you see the interviews where they're saying, oh,
we've got two number ones, We've got two number one.
Should we already be saying that? Because if Pickings go
out there and he starts putting up the same numbers

(18:23):
as CD, what are the chances you think he's gonna say, well, hey,
if I'm considered a number one and my numbers look
like this, yeah, might want to throw me one hundred
and ellion dollar contract. I don't see us being able
to do that with two receivers. No, So you think
that maybe they should have just held off on doing

(18:44):
all that bragging and let's just wait and see first,
you know. And I don't know, that's the feeling I'm
getting that it might be fine for a year, but
that might be all we had this guy because he
might want to move on.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
And I think the Cowboys understand that, and they know
that there will be a comp pick, uh, you know,
in the future if if he goes and signs a
big deal and then they can't re sign him, then
then that that would be the case, and then they
would probably go and and you know, and they'll they'll
draft the receiver number one, like they almost did this year.
So that's probably what's gonna happen here. But I have

(19:21):
I have a different take maybe on on that, on
on on how to handle it. But do you have
any other questions, righty or comments?

Speaker 8 (19:28):
Mad And I was just wondering about the Solomon Thomas
how how do you think he's gonna look for us?
You think he's big enough for us up front? Yeah? Okay, okay, yeah, don't.
I don't know much about him, so I was just curious.

Speaker 4 (19:41):
Yeah, I think, you know, obviously it doesn't matter he
was drafted third overall. I mean that that that doesn't matter.
I mean at this point, it's what what has he
done in the league. And also but also when you
have some talent like that he is, can can the
coaching staff get get enough out of you? And so
you know, I think he will be uh an active

(20:03):
defensive tackle that can get up the field, and you
know that that would probably give some good minutes and
and and have a good rotation with Osa. I think
that'll be a good competition there. I think it's a
good backup UH plan for sure, a defensive tackle. And
also when they want to move things around and maybe
play uh, you know, like a third and eight where

(20:23):
you want to you know, you want to have some
some some rushers, or maybe a third and third and
three or third and four where he could play defensive
end at times as well. So he's got some versatility.
A little bit older, but but kind of like your
Chauncy Goldstan type that can play a little bit.

Speaker 8 (20:38):
Both sides, right, gotcham I'll let you get to the people.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
YouTube man, stay stay healthy and keep calling us back.
The part about the handling, the pickings thing and all that,
you know. I think I think they understand that you
know what he's been and and that he's you know,
he's he's kind of high strong, and you know that

(21:07):
they want to put him in the right environment and
get him feeling wanted. I mean, that's the thing when
you get traded. You've been traded by a team that
drafted you, and now you know what what does that
do to you? Emotionally? They they're they're welcoming him and
by doing that, there there's like you know, we we've
got a great player here. This is how they view him.
And I think when you when you have a fresh start,

(21:29):
you want to make sure it's fresh right. You don't
want to come into the situation and say, well, you know,
here's the one, here's the two. I mean, you've got
a guy in Ceedee Lamb who is you know, I
think he's a top three or four. I saw a
list the other day where they had him six the
best receiver in the league. I think that's ridiculous. I
think he's he's top three for sure, and when you're

(21:50):
the when you're a top three, you're an all pro
Pro Bowl type receiver. To have another guy come in
here who who hasn't done what you've done and to
call him a number one also, it speaks pretty you know,
it's pretty speaks volumes to me for CD to be
able to say that, because deep down he probably is

(22:10):
like I'm one and he's two. But he's not doing that.
He's showing that there's no ego here. And you're trying
to put George Pickens in the best space possible to
go and and and and be as great as he
can be. We know he can be great. We also
know and we've seen that that he can be detrimental
at times. So there, I think everybody's saying the right

(22:33):
things to get him in here and get him as
comfortable as possible because if he if he is comfortable,
then he can go and ball out and be a
number one type receiver, and I think that benefits everyone.
So I think I think that's the approach that they're saying,
Let's get him in the right headspace here. So he
can be the dynamic player that that we've seen on tape,

(22:53):
and we see more of that than we see of
the other. All right, let me get to our next
caller here, Robbie. He's in Coco Beach, Florida.

Speaker 11 (23:02):
Hey, Nick, how are you doing good? How it's gonna
be hard to follow Randy up man, he's such a superstar.
But I hope to come in and lea, Hey, it's
great to hear from your Randy, that's for sure, my brother.
I agree with everything you said about Pickens, and I
think it works. It's kind of a no brainer, and
there's not a whole lot to add. If we do

(23:22):
great and he does well, then we've done well. And
if he goes and gets a great deal, then he
gets a great deal. And if he doesn't, then we
don't resign him and we go over there. Kind of simple.
I want to talk about tackles today, though offensive, end, defensive.
You're in the building, you see these guys. I've heard

(23:43):
good things about Gud and I've heard bad things about Guiden.
I've heard good things about Moz, I've heard bad things
up Mazi. If you say Mazi's put on weight in
a good way right, and Guiden is put on weight,
but he looks slean. And if you can answer those
questions and talk about those guys, I'll take it off.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
There and appreciate it. Thanks, thanks so much for Robbie.
You know, it's it's just like with Schottenheimer. You know,
everybody's undefeated and winless, I guess, but but every everybody's
is great here in May and June. You know that
that's that's kind of where we are. And I think

(24:23):
you know, Mozzie's they're saying the right things. They're saying
the right things about Tyler Geydon. But you know, we
saw it last year too with Geyton and he kind
of hit that wall. Uh and and Mazzi's kind of
hit hit one as well, uh in his career. So
to sit here and say that that, hey, everything's great,

(24:43):
you know they're turning the corner and this is going
to be the best year of Mozzi's career, which isn't
really saying a lot. I mean, you'd hope, so, you
know you would, you would hope, so for sure, I
mean having the best best career, you know, the best
season of MICA's career. I mean, it's kind of challenging
for him to do because he's had so many any
great years. But but to sit here and say that

(25:04):
these guys are going to be I'd be lying to you.
I don't know, and no one else does either. They
can say that they're doing you know, they're on the
right track, but that doesn't mean that they are. Just
like with Shottenheimer, he's saying the right things, everyone's buying in,
everyone's excited. He's kind of flipped the script, which is
an amazing feat. But you know, struggle in that first

(25:27):
game against Philly and then then we're back to reality again.
So and that's the nature of the business. So I
just think everyone's saying the right things about Mazie, Tyler Goydon.
It looks like they are ready to kind of turn
that corner, both of them, And not only would that
be great for them, but the Cowboys need it need

(25:47):
that to happen because they draft them in the first round,
and you need your first round picks, especially when you're
not going to be you know, big in free agency,
those first round picks have to hit, and for the
most part with this team, they do. These two right
here certainly have to and and I think we'll see,
you know, we'll see what happens with them. But but
so far, so good. But then again, you know, you

(26:09):
wait till you can't even really wait till training camp,
you know, and you gotta wait till the pads come
on and they're ready to hit. And in most cases
it's going to be early in the preseason, if not
just the regular season. So we'll find out. We'll find
out soon enough. All right, let's go to is it
Chantel in Madison, Mississippi?

Speaker 12 (26:30):
Yeah, that's me.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
How you doing.

Speaker 12 (26:32):
I'm doing well?

Speaker 13 (26:33):
Thank you?

Speaker 1 (26:33):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (26:34):
I'm great? Let's make sure first time caller. Yeah, there
we go. All right, Well what's going on with you?

Speaker 14 (26:43):
Nothing? Nothing much.

Speaker 12 (26:44):
Really wanted to dig in and talk about the old
lineman that we have on the team. I you know,
I'm hearing a lot of people are talking about guiding.
I'm hearing a couple of things about Nate Tomas. You know,
I wanted to know, like when it comes to this,
I think Thomas, I mean, how is he looking out there?
Like how does he adapted to the offensive games? I

(27:06):
know he got drafted last year, we didn't get to
see him play, but like, you know, how what's your
what's your thoughts about that.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
About Nate Thomas. Yeah, well, I mean his his big
deal is just has always been the injuries. I think,
talent wise, if it wasn't for injuries in college, and
there were a lot of them, I think you're talking
about a third round pick type of player from a
talent standpoint, maybe better. But the injuries were serious. I

(27:36):
mean we're talking a cl we're talking I think I
think their shoulder, back, and and then you know, maybe
a little bit of a heart condition. So serious stuff
for him. But we you know, last year he was
banged up some as well. I think he's a sleeper.
I think he's a guy that if he shows that
he's healthy and he can just get you know, he's

(27:57):
no one's talking about him except for you, except for you,
but no really calls in to talk about him. And
that could be a good thing. You know, it could
be a good thing if you can kind of put
it all together then then, especially because the big thing
going for him is that he can play both guard
and tackle, and so that's basically four out of your
five spots that you can plug a guy in if

(28:17):
he's healthy enough. He's certainly big enough and strong enough,
so he's just got to put it together and he
hasn't done it yet, but that doesn't mean he won't.

Speaker 12 (28:26):
Yeah, yeah, that's that's really true. And I didn't know about,
you know, all the injuries in college, but yeah, that's
what I was just seeing, trying to see when it
comes to like putting our old lineman together for this
upcoming season, because you know, he wants him to be
the best. But you know, that's why I'm like, you know,
I want to sit of the information about him to
see what we kind of had out there. Hopefully, you know,
he makes it and he you know, stays healthy and

(28:47):
predits himself to be ready. But you know, I was
just thinking, you know, do you think Guiden is also
going to be good? You know, I'm hearing that they're
they're coming in and see at OTAs he's gaining a
little bit away or something that I put you know,
just hearing the talks out there. But what's your thoughts
on him?

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Yeah, you know my thoughts on him? I kind of
said it in the last color too. I just feel
like he's done, He's doing everything right. He's got his body,
you know, in better shape. He was here a lot
in the offseason, so he did the necessary things to
kind of take that next step. This is when when

(29:25):
players take the biggest step, in my opinion, is that
first the second year, they figured out how to be
a pro, how to work out what to eat, what
not to eat, when to go to bed, when to
when to when to have fun, but when to be
serious about football. And so I think he's doing all
of those things now he's just got to put it together.
And for him, and I hate to say it, it's
lining up right. It's it's figuring out, you know, get

(29:48):
getting your feet right in the middle of your stance.
He's he's not played a lot of football in his life.
He's just a great athlete for his size and he
he's got the feet for it. He's got to figure
out how to play left tackle in the NFL. Not
the easiest spot in the world, but I think he can.
He's a smart guy and I think if he wants it,
and it sounds like he does, if he wants it,

(30:10):
then he'll make himself better. And I think that's what
he's on track to do right now.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (30:16):
Yeah, well, listen, appreciate you talking to me. Thank you
for the answer, Thank you for conversation, Thanks for the answering.

We've gone back over the seats. Hopefully we got a
better connection than we had last week. How about Mike
in Birmingham, England.

Speaker 9 (32:47):
Mike, please tell me you can hear me this time.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
I can. How are you doing?

Speaker 9 (32:52):
Oh, thank goodness, I'm good, Thank you. Yeah. I don't
know what happened last week, but it was fine when
I was talking to Chris, so I guess we can
agree that it must have been your fault. I guess
my fault.

Speaker 4 (33:03):
Okay, all right, sure, why not? Hey, Mike, before we
get started, I just want to tell you, and I
said it off to the line, but thank you so
much for our jerseys. All right, yellow, that's Watford.

Speaker 9 (33:16):
Right, yeah, yeah, no, you're very welcome and made me
laugh with your school bus comment. Welcome to my world
every Saturday. I just like a school bus.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
So that's okay, there you go.

Speaker 9 (33:28):
Now you're very welcome.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
How did they do this year Watford?

Speaker 9 (33:33):
Well, they're in the Championship. They've been out of the
Premier League for a few years now and mid table.
We're in a bit of a transition sort of time,
but not in danger of relegation, not really in danger
of getting promoted. So what'll see what next year brings.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
That's that's kind of the same spot as my team.
And I don't know if I told you this story,
but about ten years ago, maybe eleven, we were all
brought us was kind of leading the charge. Everybody wanted
to pick a team, so I just picked. I just
picked a random team from the Premier League. I picked
Swansea and uh they were okay for a couple of years,

(34:10):
and then they got down to the Championship League and
that's where they've been for a while. I still follow
them a little bit, hoping they will get up there,
but they haven't, but it's probably about the same as
Watford right in there.

Speaker 9 (34:20):
Yeah yeah, similar size club. So so yeah, but that's
a that's a good show. It's far more interesting than
saying you're at Liverpool or Manchester United fan, isn't it.
So yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, all right.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Well Mike, let's start Cowboys football. What do you got
for us?

Speaker 9 (34:34):
Let's let's do that. A couple of things. First of all,
I've got the biggest news from this off season is
I'm coming to Dallas. I've got my tickets for the
Packers game flights, I've got hotel, I've got the long
suffering friend to come with me. So I am so
excited I cannot wait. So that's that. And just in

(34:58):
terms of a lot of people have been talking about expectations,
and so I listened back last week. Loved listening to
Michael from Bowling Green and his fourteen and three. I'll
certainly take that. But my take is I went very high,
very early on them last year, and we know how

(35:19):
that turned out. So I'm just kind of holding it
back a little bit. I think on that schedule, we've
got six games that you would probably have us as favorites.
For that doesn't mean me necessarily win them, but six
I think we should win. There are four that look
pretty tricky, where again doesn't mean we can't win them,

(35:39):
but you wouldn't expect it. And then the others, the
other seven for me, are all fifty to fifty games
and it's going to depend a lot on injuries and
how things go. All the unknowns. We don't know how
Schottenheimer's team is going to play. We don't know. We're
excited about pickings. I'm excited about pickings. We don't know

(35:59):
how it's going to pan out. The draft looked good,
we don't know how those guys are going to do.
So it's an exciting place to be because we're on
the cusp of a season that could go either way.
And just one more thing, just as a general NFL points,
just something that bothers me a lot, because we're coming

(36:22):
up towards the season now where we'll have the training
camp and then the pre season games, and in those
pre season games, we'll get to see some of the
guys that we don't see that often, and then after
that there is no game time for them whatsoever. And
you know, we were talking about soccer earlier, and how
in soccer teams, when the big teams have got a

(36:44):
young player, they loan them out to the smaller team.
So we've had a guy from Chelsea. His long term
future isn't with a team like Watford, but he comes
to us, he gets game time and he develops them.
Hopefully he goes back and has a great career with Chelsea.
Is there any scope in the NFL for, you know,
linking up with the UFL the CFL so that those

(37:07):
guys get some actual proper game time And with that,
I'll leave you to it and hopefully speak again soon.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
All right, thank you, thanks for the call, Mike. I'm
not one hundred percent sure what what what you're asking
there about about what they can do. You know, I
think NFL is going to link up with another league
or or or or at least at least you know,
with those players, give them opportunities. I mean they will.

(37:37):
I mean the Cowboys have have have done it, and
I mean two of their all pro players have been
guys from the USFL, which is now pretty much the
the the UFL. You know, the tricky part about getting
those players in is just that they've been playing football
like they're playing right now, they're playing football all summer,
so they're in good shape, but they're also somewhat worn down.

(38:00):
And so you know, to think you're gonna get a
guy in here that's going to contribute a lot, it's hard,
it's hard to fathom, but it's happened. It's happened, and
it's happened a couple of times. So I think that's
you know, all teams look at it. They know, they
know that you can get some some good players there,
and so that's you know, if that's what you're asking that, Yeah,

(38:21):
I think I think that all teams will be looking
that way. As far as any kind of connection joint
thing that, no, I mean, I don't see that happening.
I would like that. I think that that would be ideal.
I think ultimately it would It would be great if
you could have sixteen teams in a league like that

(38:42):
where maybe two of them, you know, maybe each team
kind of goes to two teams, you know, for instance,
like a San Antonio would have a team and a
lot of their players are maybe allocated by the Cowboys
and the Texans or something like that. That would some
football brand in other cities you know, other markets, and

(39:05):
also would would keep them connected, you know, to and
they tried that with NFL Europe, you know, for for
a while. I mean, but personally, you know, I think
it would be great if they could they could do
some kind of G League type thing. But I don't
know if we're we're at that point, and I don't
know if that's something that Fell would ever want to do.
All right, let's go to Lewis and Langston, Oklahoma.

Speaker 13 (39:27):
All right, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (39:29):
What's up?

Speaker 9 (39:29):
Man?

Speaker 4 (39:30):
Man?

Speaker 8 (39:30):
Not much?

Speaker 10 (39:31):
Man, I ain't gonna lie.

Speaker 13 (39:32):
I ain't gonna backtrack a lot because I have missed
a couple of weeks of getting the talk to you.
So I'll just say I'm ready for the season to.

Speaker 5 (39:39):
Start, just so I can call you a million times.

Speaker 13 (39:41):
All right, But secondly, man, I was I know they're
not doing no hitting or nothing like that, but have
y'all gotten to see them line up as far as
the defensive line, because I've been very invested in the
Mazzie Smith things to say, drafted drafted him.

Speaker 8 (39:58):
So how does.

Speaker 10 (39:58):
The front four little?

Speaker 7 (40:00):
And like?

Speaker 13 (40:00):
As far as like starting lineups, I guess maybe if
that you know, like I said, I know they're not
doing any hittings, but right once they run out there
and we know Micah's not there right now, but like,
how do they drop it in the first four and
who's coming in second team afterday if y'all have, if
they if y'all got in to see sit anything, because
those are the things that I kind of see. I
want to know what that rotation looks like.

Speaker 4 (40:21):
I can tell you right now. I can tell you
how they lined up the very first time that they
did it. They had at the left end spot was
Dante Fowler and the tackles were Osa and Mazi and
then the right defensive end was Peyton Turner former first
round Yeah, Peyton Turner. So again that you know Mica
is out, Sam Williams still is still rehabbing an injury. Uh,

(40:45):
And that was the rotation ahead of Marshawn Kneeland, ahead
of Zaraku. But it's the first its first game, I mean,
I mean it's first practice, not even a game. So
and Schottenheimer even said that you're gonna see guys running
with the first team that aren't going to be first teamers,
and you're gonna see guys, you know, moving sometimes they're
gonna they're gonna jump into the first team. They're just
trying to get all the combinations out there together. So,

(41:08):
uh but Peyton Turner is the guy that people forget
about and uh.

Speaker 13 (41:12):
Right, right, how does he look? I mean because I
don't know nothing about him. I know he's a firmal
first round pick, but as far as anything else, like,
I don't know, I don't does he does he have
any stats to go back on or is he just
a big body? Like another body right now?

Speaker 4 (41:25):
That he's he's a he's a guy that that has
showed it in college to the point where they like somebody,
you know the Saints for like, we gotta draft him.
He is not He's not lived up to that. Uh
he and mainly because of injury. And so last year
he was healthy and I think that that you know,
he showed you might have had just a couple of sacks.
But I do think from a from a disruptive standpoint,

(41:48):
from pressures that he puts some stuff on tape that's like, hey,
if this guy's starting to turn the corner, let's let's
let's get in on this. He's you know, six six,
two seventy, so he's a big guy and he's you know,
obviously the Cowboys liked him, must have liked him coming
coming out as well, so you know, but it was
it was a cheap you know, look at a guy that

(42:10):
that has has has had some potential in the past.
It but he's gonna have to I mean, is he
more of a run stopper or a passion I would
I would at six six two seventy, I mean, he's
almost a power forward, so I would you know what
I mean, I would think probably, you know, I would
say probably, not not one of either, which is which

(42:33):
is why he's in the boat that you know. I
don't think he's a true pass rusher, but he's a
probably guy that can hold the edge a little bit there.
But all things considered, you know, Micah Dante Fowler and
then I would think they would you know, Kneeland as
a rock. Who's Sam Williams. I mean, I have Peyton
Turner about as sixth when it's all healthy. But if

(42:54):
I'm wrong, great, you know. Yeah, So it's a good
problem to have, especially when your number one guy is
arguably the best in the NFL, you know, because that's
you know, that's gonna make and I always think, you know,
I don't know how much football you watched back in
the day, but Fredi was great for the Colts. But

(43:15):
you know he made Mathis on the other side pretty
good as well. And you could have that kind of combination,
you know, Carl Banks on the other side of an LT.
You know, a Fowler kneeling and Azaaku that that's a
that's a you know, great combination there with Micah.

Speaker 5 (43:33):
And I understand that.

Speaker 10 (43:35):
But I'll leave you alone.

Speaker 13 (43:36):
I mean, I'll leave you and talk to you when
I get a chance, and I appreciate it later.

Speaker 4 (43:42):
All right, all right, Lewis, hold it down there in Langston, Oklahoma.
Let's keep it moving here. We're gonna go to California.
We got Jonathan in Fullerton, California.

Speaker 1 (43:53):
Good morning, Nick.

Speaker 4 (43:54):
How you doing good?

Speaker 1 (43:57):
Good?

Speaker 7 (43:58):
How about yourself?

Speaker 4 (44:00):
Doing great here? Not as early as it is out
there in California. I appreciate you.

Speaker 18 (44:06):
Yeah calling this morning, Yeah, absolutely, just catching on my commute.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
I just wanted to call in and thank you.

Speaker 18 (44:15):
For adding me to the Storyliner's third team.

Speaker 4 (44:20):
There you go.

Speaker 18 (44:22):
Last season, I was calling in a lot more. At
the beginning of the season. I was really excited. I
got to see view my first win in person after
going to ten games and finally seeing a win. But
I was a little embarrassed when you're announcing the teams
and he called my name and it sounded like he

(44:42):
didn't really remember me calling in.

Speaker 8 (44:46):
And that's just because.

Speaker 18 (44:47):
As the season went on, I kind of got less
positive things. I felt like I wanted to contribute to
the show, and like nothing I could say could be
so as well as Rob was saying it. So I
just wanted to like personally say that, like you added

(45:07):
me on the Storyliners team, like that re inspired me
that there is still joy to be had as a
fan even if you don't have positive expectations for the season,
like I think.

Speaker 7 (45:25):
We might do.

Speaker 18 (45:27):
Fine whatever, there's so many variables and as a coach
and staff and everything. But despite all, like maybe some
low expectations for the upcoming season, it's just it's still
a joy to be had. Before I wasn't thinking about
driving over to Auxnard, but now now I do. Yeah,

(45:49):
So like, yeah, just to see you again and maybe
shake your hand on the seed. Maybe if I get
that tumblr, I can get your autograph on it, just
to make it special.

Speaker 4 (46:01):
All right, Well, I don't know if it's the best
thing to have autographed, but we can figure something out there.
But but yeah, hey, uh, you're you're on it. The
first team. The guy the captains on the first team
get exactly the same thing as the as the third
teamers do. So, uh, you're on the team, and we
appreciate it. You appreciate the call of it. And hey,

(46:23):
I know how tough it, especially when you're in California
and it's like a little different from a time zone
standpoint to call early in the mornings when our show
is I appreciate the callers that we have all over
the world. I would say country, but all over the world.
We've had two calls from from out of the country today.
But uh, I appreciate all the calls and and and

(46:44):
I get there's people on the list that were they
called twenty times in the first month, and I'm like,
oh my god, he's going to be a captain. And
the next thing, you know, something happens, life happens, and
you and you work more, take a different shift. And
Joe and in Stanford, I mean, he called all the
time when we first started, and now he can't call

(47:05):
as much anymore. I get it. That doesn't mean you're
you're not as dedicated, doesn't mean you don't listen when
when you can. Totally appreciate that. But but that being said,
the callers is what drives the show. So we appreciate
your call when you can, and appreciate the guys that
call every show. Whatever works for your schedule. Glad, Glad
it happened. Glad you're on it. And uh yeah, I

(47:26):
look forward to seeing you guys and a lot of
guys at training camp. Uh this year. All right, let's
let's go to Ali in Florida and I get.

Speaker 8 (47:34):
Those people on the list.

Speaker 7 (47:36):
Hello, how are you good?

Speaker 4 (47:40):
How are you doing?

Speaker 19 (47:41):
Pretty good?

Speaker 1 (47:42):
Sir?

Speaker 19 (47:42):
A couple of questions. Uh, my concern is Guython on
the left tackle, if he play up to par I
think you're gonna have a very good chance to be
able to finish me great records. That's the only concern

(48:03):
I have there. But everything else is just like depend
on the oppositieve line, how they're going to play. Second,
I've got a question for you. I have four or
five different assignments between assigned to photograph a lot of
tribal region in Africa. Papua New Guinea and Amazon in

(48:25):
the summertime. So I was thinking, if you like, since
you want to promote the show, I was hoping to
get a little small flag or little writing on their
storyliner and then pretend give it to the tribe with
all the painted faces and they make a shout out

(48:47):
to a storyliner so I can text it or maybe
send them to Chris. So you can promote the show
in Africa and you like a four or five different
regions in the summertime, if you like, I would love
to do that, but with your permission, So that's what
I have. Then. Also, I'm photographing the Publio in July.

(49:09):
If you know anybody for mom or your wife there Catholic,
I told christ as well, if you need any Roseerry,
I'd be more than glad to bring you some other
than that. Love your brother. Talk to you.

Speaker 4 (49:23):
Later, all right, see you later. We can talk about
some of that stuff down the line. Now. You asked
about about guiding or you said that you think he's
the key. Yeah, I agree, I mean, and they don't
have a ton of options there. If it's not him
on the roster, then it would be awesome. Richards, or
maybe they've got some other guys. Is it Hakeem a dinnergy?

(49:48):
I think that's how you say him his name. He's
a veteran, it's been around a little bit, kind of
a journeyman type guy. But they're they're putting a lot
of you know, they're they're putting a lot of expectations
in Tyler Goydon. He's he's got to be the guy here.

(50:08):
And and I think that, you know, how how he
goes is how this offense is going to go for
the most part, because I mean, you got to keep
your your quarterback protected. You got it, you gotta trust it.
And the more you think about how good I mean
nothing against I mean, Jason went In's a Hall of Famer.
If if Jason Witten didn't have Pro Bowl left tackles,

(50:33):
you know, I mean Flozel was there early and then
and then Tyrone Smith, and I mean they had great tackles.
And if you have great tackles, then you don't have
to stay in and block. You can go and make
catches and make plays. And so I think the better
that your tackles are, the better this offense can be.
Because you don't have obviously don't have to help and

(50:53):
then these tight ends with the receivers that that that
they have on the outside. I think Ferguson Schoolmaker can
be very, very good, but if they're having to stay
in and help chip block, then maybe maybe not as much.
So I think I think as good as Guiden and
Steel are. I think that's what's going to be. How
good the Cowboys offense will be this year? All right,

(51:13):
let's take one more break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll
be right back after.

(52:51):
than a week before we can send those out. If
I can get Chris to come help me, it might
be better. But anyway, he's got eight podcasts run. Let's
go to the phone lines. Let's go back to Ronnie.
He's in New Jersey, Ronnie, what's up? He's gonna get
one of those yet He's running?

Speaker 8 (53:08):
Good morning, Mick, how you doing good?

Speaker 4 (53:10):
How are you not too bad?

Speaker 5 (53:12):
Pretty good? Nick?

Speaker 8 (53:13):
Nick?

Speaker 5 (53:13):
I just heard you speaking about you guys were talking
about the offensive lineman. I didn't get to call in
last week. I didn't realize that it was switched to
yeah that's right. Well yeah, so I didn't get to
say anything about the schedule, Nick, Not for nothing, but usually,
like for like a third when you're like third or

(53:34):
fourth in your division, right, you should get an easier schedule.
It's like the NFL did us no favors. It's like
we played them. We it's like we were in the
first place. I was like, wait a minute, what's going
on with this schedule?

Speaker 4 (53:49):
Well, I think you got to you know, then think
about it like this. When you're you have had seventeen games,
three of the seventeen games are really against what you
did last year. So if your first place team, then
you're gonna play three first place teams. If you're a
third place team, you're gonna play three third place teams.

(54:09):
Now it just so happens that that the Cowboys are
you know, are also they're facing two divisions that had
three teams in the playoffs. So your third place games
that that because of where you finish. If I'm doing
this correctly, your third place games are against the let's see,

(54:31):
it's the Panthers, the Jets, and I'm missing one one
of the Cardinals. Panthers, Jets, and Cardinals. Those are your
three because you finished third, that's those are the three.
Every everything else is It would have been the same
whether you were finished first, second, third, or fourth.

Speaker 6 (54:51):
You know.

Speaker 5 (54:52):
So, yeah, is that and the way our schedule was made,
because yeah, that's a we're getting no breaks. It's like
there's no breaks in that schedule. To be honest with you, Yeah,
they'll give us a ten day break here, but then
you're playing well, I think we're playing like two or
three times this season back to back within like what

(55:13):
is it, within like four days or something like that,
we gotta play. I think we played Kansas City and
then Philadelphia's like or Philadelphia first and then Kansas City
is like turn around like within like a short amount
of time. It's ridiculous that part of the schedule. I
just didn't. I just thought we got.

Speaker 9 (55:32):
The you know, the other end.

Speaker 5 (55:34):
Of the stick on that because they did it through
throughout the season. It is kind of based like that.
So they did us no favors. When it comes to
the schedule, it's all right, we're gonna play those teams,
but man, give us a break. At least let us
get a don't promote, don't promote health, you know what
I'm saying. Promote You know, we're going for safety and

(55:54):
all this stuff, and then you give us, out of everybody,
you give us this schedule. So I'm sorry, but yeah,
I appreciate the schedule too much. When it comes to
the composition, I heard you mentioned about the offensive tackles,
and I really would love to see if they gave
awesome Richards a chance to play either the left to

(56:16):
battle it out for the left tackle or the right tackle.
Because they keep them promoting best five, best five. All right,
let's see, let's see what everybody's got. Let's see if
just because this kid was a late first round pick
doesn't mean he's gonna, you know, take over and give
it to him and make him battle for it. Make
Austoin Richards look pretty good before he got hurt last year.

(56:37):
So I was kind of disappointed when he did get hurt.
And and you know mean Nick, until until we could
stop that run, until we could stop the run, man,
I want to see what we got in in our
nose tackle. If we could stop the run, I don't
I don't care about corner back, I don't care about
any other position, and we could stop the run because

(56:59):
you go way with your scheme, you know, cover your
guys in the cornerbacks and stuff like that are very
least decent. Uh So stopping that run is number one
priority for me. So thanks for taking my car next week.

Speaker 4 (57:15):
All right, appreciate it. Thanks for the call. A couple
of things about what you what you mentioned about the schedule.
They you're right, they play four games on Thursday nights. Uh,
that's I don't think that's ever happened. I know that
didn't happened with the Cowboys. I don't know any other
team has done that. Of those four games, two of

(57:37):
them are going to be short weeks. Obviously, the Philly
game to start the season, that's just the first game.
So you're not, yeah, that's not a short week. You
got you gotta I mean, you can start preparing right
now for Philly and they're gonna give it to Barklaying
and they're gonna if it's third and one or two
or fourth and one, they're gonna do a tousch push,
so you know, you can start preparing for that. The

(57:59):
other Thursday, the games, obviously Thanksgiving, that's a short week.
This is the first time in a long time that
the Cowboys are actually playing at home before Thanksgiving. Usually
that because they are always at home and the road
teams coming in they have to be the Cowboys have
been on the road there, but this one now it's Philly,
so it's not like it's a huge break, but they

(58:21):
are home there, so that is a short week. Then
the next after Thanksgiving, then the next Thursday is the Lions,
so it's not a short week, but you don't get
a break after playing the Super Bowl champions, then the
Super Bowl runners up, and then in a week now
you got to go go to face Detroit and who

(58:42):
embarrassed you last year, and they were the number one
seed in the NFC, so you got to go up
against them. So and then the next Thursday game is
Christmas Day. That's a short week. You're playing at home
against the Chargers and then going there at Washington, which
my family loves that schedule. They love that that I'm
going to be in Washington on Christmas Day. I know

(59:03):
beams that probably the same way. Yay, yay for Christmas
on the road. All right, let's go to Uh And
then one more thing you said about Austin Richards and
Tyler Guidon and hoping that they don't hand it to him.
Tyler Gouyton got benched last year for too money, doga.
You know, they and this is a different coaching staff,
but they they had to, They had to play a

(59:26):
different guy because he just wasn't ready. So I don't
think they're gonna hand it to anybody. If if Austin
Richards is better, then then you know, now he's gonna
have to do it with limited reps. It's not the
easiest thing to do with offensive line is to beat
out somebody ahead of you when when they're trying to
build continuity and chemistry at the same time, it's hard
to do that. So but if he's better, then then

(59:49):
he'll play. And that's probably the same with just about everybody.
All right, let's go to Gregan's Sacramento.

Speaker 14 (59:55):
Hey, Nick, how good man?

Speaker 4 (59:57):
How are you?

Speaker 14 (59:59):
I'm doing well? Been I've been trying to call in
for for a while. Uh, but they're kind of a while.
I'll try to keep it short. But first, I just
the very first thing I wanted to say is just
give a shout out to Randy.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Sure.

Speaker 14 (01:00:09):
I hope his recovery is going great. Randy, were all
pulling for you, bro. And then I wanted to thank
you and Chris for having me to the to the
all story Wine.

Speaker 8 (01:00:18):
Yeah, I was what I.

Speaker 14 (01:00:19):
Didn't hear you know, my name called in an honorable
mentions of like, oh man, maybe I'll try harder next year.
Then and I heard you say the third team. I
was like, oh, yeah, that's great.

Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
There you go. That's yeah. Well we'll be sending you
that that Yetty, And we appreciate you. I know I
got to meet you and your son, I believe it
at training camp last year on the fence. I don't
know if you're going to be able to make it
down to camp.

Speaker 14 (01:00:43):
Again, but definitely definitely. I want to remember. I wanted
to come get a book from you. You said you're
going to have. You said you're going to have for
me or have the way to get for me to
get one, and that'd be great.

Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
All right, I'm bringing I'm bringing some books. Uh this year,
I'll bring some book up there. And I know We're
going to have a few people from the storyline crew
that will be there that I'm like anxious. I'm anxious
about that, and I'm a little bit I'm a little
scared about how that's gonna go down, but.

Speaker 14 (01:01:15):
I think it would go where. Everybody's pretty pretty advocable.
It seems like on Twitter, I know, discussion is the headiot,
but it's all it's all in love for the Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
Great, all right, well we'll see. So what do you got?
What do you uh, Just just so you know, I
don't know if you heard this what you said, you said,
shout out to Randy or you know a lot of
people Randy called today. I don't know if you got
to hear that part. Randy called in. I didn't gave
a little bit of about date. Sometimes people that call
are so busy calling that they don't get to hear

(01:01:45):
the show. Randy did call, and he's doing pretty good.
So that you go back, Well, man, that's awesome.

Speaker 14 (01:01:51):
I'll definitely go back and listen. Yeah, for sure, that's
great to hear. Thanks for that update. Because I didn't
get to hear that. I'll try to call in so yeah.
But anyway, so just really quick. I know, like I said,
I had a lot of stuff I just wanted to
I'll just hit on a few quick points and I
haven't been able to talk about. I love the Seadenheimer pickup.
I love the Pickens pick up. And I actually have

(01:02:12):
a question for you on Pickens. So a lot of
people are like, I've been hearing a lot of comparisons
of him to Deaz Brian or whatever it is as
far as his uh, you know, his emotions or his
love for the game and everything like that. Yeah, So
my question for you is, remember in training camp when
when Dev Brian and Jordan Lewis kind of got into
it like that, the competitive wise. So I'm wondering, who

(01:02:34):
do you think on on our R DVS is gonna
be the Jordan Lewis to the George Pickens death Brian.
Does that make sense?

Speaker 4 (01:02:40):
That's makes a lot of sense. It makes a lot
of sense, And it's an important question because it's it's
not just who's going to battle, it's it's you know,
who's going to be your ass kicker on defense? Who's
gonna who's gonna be that dog? And that's that's great

(01:03:01):
to have because the offense just can't punk the defense
every time out because everyone knows it that when we
get to the games, you know they're gonna roll over.
So des didn't win all of those battles all the time,
and and and and he made those guys better. You know,
who is it gonna be? I mean I'm looking, I'm

(01:03:26):
looking right now, you know, like like I'll tell you
who has the personality for it. But if Jordan Lewis
couldn't play slot corner, then he wouldn't be the guy,
you know what I mean. It's the same with calling
anybody a leader. Nobody that's a good that it wasn't
a great player, wasn't considered a great leader. So you
have to do that first. Mentality wise, I don't think

(01:03:49):
anyone's gonna be gonna be punkin Juan yer Thomas. Okay,
but is he is? Is he good enough to do?
You have to have to back it up, you know
what I mean. You could sit there and talk all
day long, you know, I mean. The Cowboys had a
cornerback that actually threw some hands with Dez and caught him.

(01:04:10):
I don't know if you remember, got Himed Tyler Patman,
but he got no he got in a fight, and
if I remember correctly, got in a fight at training
camp with Dez. I gave him. I think i'd give
him a ten to nine on that on that round.
But but was he a great player? Like no, you know,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 7 (01:04:28):
Like, so.

Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
You've got to be able to back it up here.
So who that person is? You know, Donfred Wilson's not
taking any crap from anyone, I mean, any of these
guys are. But but but it's a great question because
who is going to develop it? Because if they're gonna
sit there and talk and talk and talk and talk,
at some point you want your defensive guys to say
enough is enough. Who that person is? I don't know yet,

(01:04:52):
but I but I wouldn't have picked one Jordan Lewis
either until he kind of developed into that. But you
gotta be a great player. You got to be a
great player. You can't just sit there and and and
and and talk it if you're not going to walk
it for sure. Great question.

Speaker 14 (01:05:06):
Yeah, they and I and I like to you know,
I like how Jordan Luis. He kind of was a
lot smaller I think than dead right, So I you know,
I like that size didn't matter you know that Jordan
Luis was there to just push him and push him.
You know, I'm hoping that someone on the defense, like
you said, will step up and just kind of not
just with pickings but with the other receivers too, you know,

(01:05:27):
with CD and kind of challenge this offense. But but yeah,
and then I just briefly I wanted to mention the schedule.
Why does it feel like it's a first place schedule?

Speaker 19 (01:05:36):
Man?

Speaker 14 (01:05:37):
It's some tough games, and then you know, in advance,
I just want to say I appreciate you guys. I
know you guys are gonna have to travel on Christmas,
and you guys gonna have to travel on or you know,
work the Thanksgiving game, which you guys already do. But
but uh man, it's just it's brutal for most you
guys and the stairs it seems so. But anyway, thanks
for taking my car.

Speaker 8 (01:05:56):
I really appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
All right, sounds good to answer the part of the
schedule I did talk about it about why it's you know,
from a third place schedule standpoint, you're facing the Jets, Panthers,
and Cardinals. Why it feels like a first place schedule
is because you get matched up against three divisions every year.
I mean where you play everyone in the vision. Obviously

(01:06:20):
the NFC East is one of them, and you play
them twice, that's a given. And then you play one
NFC division and then one AFC. One why it feels
so bad is because the NFC division that you matched
up with it has three playoff teams from last year,
including the number one seed in Detroit, then Minnesota, then

(01:06:42):
Green Bay and then the Bears, who I think everyone
thinks it's going to be a lot better with a
new coach and they got a good young quarterback. And
so that that's four teams from the NFC North. Then
you've got the AFC West, who just so happens to
have the Chiefs, and then the Chargers and the Broncos
both made the playoffs. And then you've got the Raiders,

(01:07:02):
who you know that they're probably like the Bears, where
you're like, well, you know, they got a new coach
and new excitement and that's gonna be interesting too. So
that's your two divisions, not to mention your own division
that has two teams in the the NFC Championship Game,
so you got to face them four times total. And
then the Giants who they've added some pieces too. So
that's why it feels the way it is is the

(01:07:23):
divisions that you matched up against are if my math
is correct, that's eight playoff teams, and then you play
two of them twice, so that's ten games right there
that you have to face three, three, and then four
of four of your division games. So ten games right there.
That's why it feels like a first play schedule. All right,

(01:07:45):
let's go to Jeff in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Speaker 9 (01:07:48):
Hey, Nick, how are you good?

Speaker 4 (01:07:49):
How are you hey?

Speaker 8 (01:07:52):
Good?

Speaker 20 (01:07:52):
Long time, It's been a while since I talked to you,
so sure. Just a couple, just a couple of comments
before my question.

Speaker 9 (01:07:59):
I don't know if you guys have discussed this today.

Speaker 7 (01:08:01):
I just got on.

Speaker 20 (01:08:02):
But in regards to the coaching change with Schottenheimer, at first,
I was a little skeptical, But after hearing Schottenheimer over
the offseason and all that, I think, uh, I think
we got a good opportunity to maybe find someone, uh
maybe a hitting gym with him. He seems like the
players seem like they respect him, and I like his fire,

(01:08:24):
I like his energy so far, so I'm kind of
excited about seeing what he can do this year. I
really was happy with the draft. I love the fact
that once the wide receiver was taken early. I thought
going best BPA was fantastic.

Speaker 5 (01:08:39):
I'm with you.

Speaker 20 (01:08:40):
I loved replenishing that guard spot to replace Zach Martin
during retirement. I thought that was great, and I really
loved the first three picks. I think we got three
potential starters right there.

Speaker 7 (01:08:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 20 (01:08:51):
But my question for you, I know in past shows
you guys have talked about the secondary, and just based
on last season and how we had that doric corner
with all the injuries once Digs went down, I still
feel it's a little concerning, especially with Diggs probably going
to be winding up on pop and then losing Jordan Lewis.

(01:09:11):
In your opinion, is there anybody outside of Bland that
could potentially move into the slot and play that position
and let us keep Bland outside. I know he would
prefer to play outside, but he seems like a team guy.
He's willing to move back inside if necessary. It just
seems like we're still kind of in that position that

(01:09:33):
we were last year with the injuries. We have one
solid starter, but now we're also down our slot with
Jordan Lewis being gone, So if you could possibly touch
on that subject a little bit, I'll take your answer
off air and hopefully I can get in with you
later on.

Speaker 6 (01:09:47):
Nick.

Speaker 4 (01:09:47):
Thank you for sure, good to hear from you. Thanks
for the call, Jeff, you know that that's another really
good question about who can be the slot guy. Now,
you know, I think that Elam it has the potential
for that. Kyer Elam. Now, of course he's another outside
guy too, so you're talking about moving you know, outside

(01:10:09):
and inside. But it's not the worst thing in the
world to have a guy move inside because think of
it like this. If you have a great receiver that
can that can line up in the slot, then you
know he's looking for mismatches and so the greatest players

(01:10:30):
are the ones that can line up all over the place,
So you kind of want a guy that can line
up with them. It's not the worst thing to have
a bland that that can slide inside it, especially if
it's like we need you to guard this guy. You're
going against Washington, here's Debo or here's Terry McLaurin or whatever,
and they're gonna line up all over the place. Well,

(01:10:51):
I want my guy to line up all over the
place too, because I don't want them just finding the mismatch.
So I'm I'm okay with that. I'm okay. At least
you have a guy that can play inside. Now, in
a perfect world, you got two great ones on the
outside and then you got one on the inside. That's
kind of what they had with Lewis. I don't think
they felt really comfortable with Lewis playing on the outside

(01:11:12):
all the time. I think Elam can do it. We'll
see if Kaylen Carson's that that type of guy. And
when he gets healthy left Revel can can can be
that because he's played a lot of different places. Now,
you know, we saw him a kwamu in there again,
that's kind of more of a safety. But but you know,

(01:11:32):
we'll see how Iberflus does this, and maybe he has
a different you know, tricks up his sleeve. But good question,
I don't know if it's it's a it's a huge
problem right right this second, because you you want to
you want to have three or four good corners that
can do it, and ideally you would like to have
two that can that can line up in the slot.
I know Bland can do it. Not sure about the

(01:11:53):
second guy just yet. So a great question. A great question.
I've had a couple in a row that are like
good questions that we still need to figure out.

Speaker 8 (01:12:00):
Here.

Speaker 4 (01:12:01):
All right, let's go. This is our last caller here,
Lester in Minnesota.

Speaker 10 (01:12:05):
Good morning, Nick.

Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
How are you doing?

Speaker 10 (01:12:08):
And I'm doing good?

Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
Man.

Speaker 10 (01:12:11):
Hey, I still got some concerns about our defensive tackle,
you know, on the offensive and defensive line guy. I
think the seventh round pick serves, I guess be okay,
but what are you hearing about that? Also, I think

(01:12:34):
that we should as far as our offensive line if
it if it works really well, I think we should.
I know they say they want to run the ball,
but I think we really should run, run, run, run
the ball because, like I was saying before, in the
nineties we were a run heavy team. I don't know
the percentages, but I watched them a lot, so I'm

(01:12:55):
going to say it's probably was like fifty two run
forty eight pass, but it was real close, fifty fifty
something like that. And then just to comment on I
think the first caller about when he commented about Rob.

Speaker 6 (01:13:10):
And his favorite player.

Speaker 10 (01:13:12):
My favorite player played for the Raiders at corner back.
He had the same name I get less, Lester Hayes.
So I don't know if that really matters, but I
just want to throw that in there.

Speaker 4 (01:13:26):
So what do you think, Nick, Well, I think I
think it's okay to have a favorite player from another
team or whatever.

Speaker 7 (01:13:34):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
I mean, I loved I loved watching Michael Jordan too,
but when they played the Mavericks, you know, I cheered
for the Mavericks, you know. I mean, that's the kind
of the way that it is. They didn't really have
a player like that. So I get it. I get it.
But you know, as long as as long as you're
pulling for your team and not not so much the player.

Speaker 10 (01:13:53):
I mean, I've always been a cowboy man. But you know,
like I said, in high school, I played corner so
I modeled game.

Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
After that's that's awesome. I'm sure you got a penalty
or five. Uh there, awesome. I'll answer the the the
defensive defensive tackle positions of what you're asking about defensive tackle,
you know, from what I'm hearing, I mean, well, they

(01:14:21):
like these guys. They they like Jaytoya, and they they
they like you know, Mazzie. Only time will tell if
if that's what we'll find out when we get you know,
when the pads come on in training camp, and we'll
see if if if they can can hold up, and
we'll see if they're they're you know, if if somebody
has given Tyler Smith some problems, then maybe it's gonna
be pretty good. You know, if someone's having having a

(01:14:44):
hard time with a Nate Thomas or or you know,
and no offense, then these guys that are backups. But
we'll find out at training camp just just how how
these guys can can perform.

Speaker 10 (01:14:54):
So all right, all right, and then uh, you know
again until we get a good, great offensive and defensive
line at the same time.

Speaker 7 (01:15:03):
This is what we got Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
All right, go cowboy a right? Sounds good? All right, Lester,

our last one of the day. We're gonna stay tuned
