It didn't Sorry, we're awake.

We're awake here, baby, I'm awake.
Speaker 5 (00:57):

I've got something for that.
Speaker 6 (01:01):
We know, save it, save it, say.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
Thank you, jazz, Let's go. You didn't hear that, did you?

you know what time it is? What time is it?
We got I knew, I knew would bother you should
That's what I told you do it.
Speaker 7 (01:27):
My poor tonight is.
Speaker 6 (01:31):
Not the tonight every veteran out there. Girl.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
A lot going on here in the coaching world early
in the NFL right now.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
But let's talk about the coaching for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
I want to go to Jess just give us a
little quick update on who's been hired, who's not been hired,
and the.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Updates on cow Okay, so we're gonna do this every
week and I made a very comprehensive list on my
notes app. So the Chicago Bears higher to the very
sought after Ben Johnson, great hire by them. New England
Patriots have hired Mike Verbell Cowboys TVD, Jacksonville Jaguars TVD,
(02:10):
Las Vegas Raiders TVD, New Orleans Saints TVD, New York
Jets TVD. And yeah, that's where we are, guys, that's
where we are in the head coaching cycle.
Speaker 7 (02:19):
A lot of.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
TVDS, but more more TBD.
Speaker 8 (02:22):
I feel like here in Dallas other places, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
That big TVD is on the head coaching position that
the Cowboys have not filled just yet, but some news
the latest Brian Schottenheimer, the current offensive coordinator, has uh.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
Is expected to get an interview. Thoughts. What do y'all
think about.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Brian Schottenheimer possibly serving as the Cowboys head coach in
the future.
Speaker 9 (02:48):
I've been dying in I was a surprise, I will say,
when I started to see the reports as the not
only any interviewed, but emerging as the top candidate in the.
Speaker 8 (03:03):
Top But to be clear, I feel like every week,
like last week, was Kellam Moore top candidate until we
see them all, it's kind of hard to like, you know,
it's just the top to us that week in my opinion,
because I can't sit here and say the top candidate
until we see all of the candidates. And like we
said last week, Cowboys are a little bit behind in
the ball. But personally, when I look at the Cowboys
(03:26):
and I look at what was available and the fact
that we didn't try to go for some of the
top coaches on the market that every other league is
fighting for. Like we'll get into it later, but like
Ben Jonson, Aaron Glenn, everybody knows.
Speaker 7 (03:38):
Those were the top two candidates.
Speaker 8 (03:40):
And to see the cowboys, not even like try to
go either way.
Speaker 6 (03:43):
Or call them.
Speaker 8 (03:45):
It's just crazy in my opinion, because now we have
a candidate no disrespect, but like who is going after.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yeah, no, that's a valid statement, that's the only thing.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
But that's intentional too. They don't like to compete. And
I'm not gonna go there.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
Yeah we're gonna We're gonna hold that real fast. Just
go ahead.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
You know it's funny because you said you weren't you
were surprised. I was not. I was like looking at
my stuff. I was looking at my clock. I said, well,
when's the time coming? Like it's only a matter of time.
And and how this works too, is I knew when
the name got brought up, of who's familiar in the building,
who knows the guys, he would be like the first
(04:30):
first one that was mentioned, So I knew it was
a matter of time. Now, I do agree what you're
saying as far as him being the top contender of
the week, because it's the news cycle, it's knew, it's fresh,
it keeps you in the headlines, and it keeps the
shock value very much like would they do that? Are
they going to? It just keeps the Cowboys in the conversation,
and you know that's how it goes. So for me,
(04:52):
I'm not surprised. I definitely think that no disrespect of course,
I just think there's better options if you're wanting to
build a winning team right off the bat. And I
just again I go back to this should have been
done a couple of weeks ago. Putting that list together
on my notes app, I was like, Wow, the Cowboys
(05:13):
have significantly fewer interviews than most of these other teams
that all of the other teams I'm gonna say that
are in the same position as them without a head coach.
Speaker 7 (05:23):
Yeah, the band, No, I don't have nothing stressful to say.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
I'm not this is all stressful. What do you mean, girl,
this is perfectly fat.
Speaker 9 (05:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (05:34):
I mean back to my original point with Renee and
talking about the fact that Ben Johnson is first of
all Ben, the Ben Johnson situation doesn't just affect the
Cowboys and the fact that they didn't pursue him, that
also affects Mike McCarthy, who.
Speaker 7 (05:46):
I thought was in the driver's heat for their job.
Speaker 10 (05:48):
And then Ben Johnson was like, I'm just gonna go
this just gonna ease on brother the brother, and so
it also puts Mike McCarthy in a weird spot as well,
where he told the cowboys, I'm out of here. It
sounds like you've been talking to the bears and the
bears was looking at the other girl.
Speaker 7 (06:04):
Lord, have mercy here. It's today anyway, anyway, back to task.
Speaker 10 (06:15):
So for me, it doesn't surprise me in a sense
of we already know the Conbins like to stay in house.
Speaker 7 (06:19):
They want they're trying to keep it. I'm torn because.
Speaker 10 (06:23):
I do to some degree, and we talked about it ladies.
Here is that there is a level of continuity that
is going to just be completely gone with changing a roster.
Flipping a roster essentially what you're gonna have to do,
changing the staff, completely gutting it. So it's like, Okay,
they're trying to keep him here because they maybe want
to have Dak to be familiar with this guy.
Speaker 7 (06:43):
Dak has three years Libston's Country or that whatever. But
right now where you're at, you need to do something inspiring.
I'm sorry, you need to.
Speaker 10 (06:52):
Do something that's gonna shoot energy back into this this
team right now. And I get that a lot of
people feel I know Dak likes Shody. Spoke about how
Shody is and I know you were out there training camp.
Speaker 7 (07:04):
He's the energy he like. From my understanding, he's the
guy that gets guys ready and he wants them ready
for battle all this stuff.
Speaker 10 (07:11):
But it's like for me, I just think what the
state of your where your team is right now, and
overhaul is probably best right now. And comfort they've operated
in comfort for years. It is not getting you nowhere
and this feels like a comfortable situation.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (07:29):
Yeah, not even to go into scheme and all that stuff.
We'll talk about that later.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
I don't know what, because my question is is.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I'm sorry, why would the Cowboys consider Brian Schottenheimer or
consider him promoting him to this role? Because you look
at other guys on this coaching staff, like an Al Harris,
who has not gotten that opportunity to be even thought
about when it comes to defensive coordinator.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
He's done so many.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Good things with his defense, so it's almost kind of like, Okay,
why now for Brian Schottenheimer.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
He's been here, what two years? Got your twenty twenty three?
Speaker 10 (08:07):
Yeah, it's interesting too because we listened to Brian Schottenheimer
and these pressers and stuff like that. And as again,
I'm looking at the film and I'm sitting up here.
Speaker 7 (08:16):
Like, what are he talking about?
Speaker 6 (08:20):
So?
Speaker 7 (08:20):
What he talking about? They should be doing? They not doing?
So were there.
Speaker 10 (08:23):
Philosophy differences between he and McCarthy? And maybe the Cowboys
feel like his philosophy.
Speaker 7 (08:29):
Is more forward thinking?
Speaker 10 (08:31):
Maybe, but it's just still like the feel of just
keeping these gentlemen here despite everything that's going on.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
It's weird.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
I just feel like I would be more comfortable with
this being the front runner of the conversation if he
was calling the place last year and you actually knew
what you were getting into, because to your point, you
don't know the philosophy, you don't know what his coaching
style is other than an OC who wasn't calling plays
like that doesn't give you a fair, I think, assessment
(09:00):
of the kind of head coach that he could be.
And I know he's very very highly regarded, comes from
a coaching family, and you know it kind of is
in the blood, and he's talked about that. I mean
on his arm he has faith family or is it
family football faith, something something like that on his arm.
So I don't doubt that at some point he can
be a head coach. I just I would rather have
(09:23):
somebody with a track record that can come in here
win and to your point, yes, pretty much build something
from the ground up, has done it before, and not
put him in a situation to possibly be set up
for failure if he doesn't exactly know how to align
pieces for a winning team next year.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
I mean, he was in Seattle and they had some
success there, but he's he's just I don't know. It's
just in a way he would.
Speaker 8 (09:48):
Be fresh too, and I just don't see like I
know Mike McCarthy was calling the plays, but I just
don't see somebody I don't see him as a person
who wouldn't be open to input from a guy who's
in the same room and seeing everything you see. So
in my opinion, he doesn't have the answer to what
this team's needs because he's been in this building, he
(10:11):
has those relationships, he's hyping up the players, and then
what we didn't get the result? And to me, I
don't I'm not overthinking it. I think it's very simple.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
I think he's affordable, and I think he's.
Speaker 8 (10:24):
Eager to have that opportunity and I think it's someone
that Okay, you're hired, But how do you feel if
I bring this person in, this person in, and this person,
what are you gonna say? What leverage do you have
at that point if you really want that head coaching job?
Speaker 6 (10:40):
Okay?
Speaker 8 (10:40):
And I think somebody, maybe El Harris might have a
little more a voice in that expect Again, notice respect
to shoddy at all, but I'm just saying personally, when
you get any any field, when.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
You don't have that leverage for a job you want,
you gotta, you know, give a little more.
Speaker 8 (11:01):
And I see this as a candidate who will and
there's speculation that you know, Jerry has interests in a
mister Witten as well. So I mean that we have
that that's on the table, right, Like I think a
lot of Cowboys Nation fans probably fifty fifty because there's
someone has to have a reputation coming in here. Yeah,
(11:22):
which is shoddy the relationship, like you said, But now okay,
if that falls through, then they still get Yeah.
Speaker 7 (11:30):
Did Ben Johnson and those guys want to interview here?
Speaker 6 (11:33):
And that's another thing, because.
Speaker 10 (11:34):
That's on you a whole to me, when you say
what you say about and when you when you said
Shoddy is eager, may are probably eager for the opportunity.
It triggered me like, Okay, well were those other are
gentlemen not eager to come here?
Speaker 7 (11:50):
Which is something that we talked about a few like
what Troy are just said, Troy Aikman just said.
Speaker 10 (11:55):
And obviously Troy sees these players, these coaches, these people
all the time, like he's he's connected. So it's like
if he's saying like this is the sentiment about coaching
this team, is there.
Speaker 7 (12:07):
Some validity to it? Is that why we're in this
weird limbo right now?
Speaker 5 (12:12):
Is it?
Speaker 10 (12:12):
Is it difficult to draw people into wanting to interview
this team. That's something that I think we're going to
see over the course of this this because of these
other coaches, just keep one of these other teams.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
You can't.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
That means you can't compete.
Speaker 10 (12:24):
And it's gonna say a lot about what the state
of this team is. I babe, they're about to we
about to be one of the people that hire you
when you start working the next day.
Speaker 6 (12:34):
I mean, that's that's crazy. But you also know, like
familiarity is just a concept that runs deep in this organization.
No matter what aspect of it. I mean, I e
look at the ez Ki Elliott situation bringing him back
like it's it's something that's comfortable here not. You know,
(12:55):
we don't necessarily agree with it all the time, but
I think when you're talking in terms of a head
coach that is eventually needs to come in and be
an impact maker on the spot the same day they're hired,
Like with the draft right around the corner, man, I
don't want to risk somebody who hasn't had the experience
as a head coach already.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Well, there's a lot of unknown of whether or not
Brian Schottenheimer will be the answer.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
There's a lot of unknown.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Of who will be the next head coach here in Dallas.
But there's one thing that is non Former special teams
coordinator John Fossil is no longer here. He is going
to Tennessee, oh Man. And you look at how he
spearheaded the whole special teams a new kickoff rule and
really change the culture in that unit. You look at
just in twenty twenty four, they were second in scoring,
(13:41):
second in field goals made led the league, and kickoffs
return for a touchdown led the league and.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
Average return yards.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Shoutouts to Cavate Turnin, shout out to Brandon Aubrey, all
those guys, John Fossil.
Speaker 6 (13:51):
How do you replace if you can replace a coach
like that, you can't, I'm sorry. You can with somebody
who's on his statute. And that's also hard to find.
Because here's one thing I know about Bones is I've
talked to obviously current players, but also past players. I'm
talking years ago, players who still talk about the impact
(14:12):
that man had on their life past football. So for me,
Bones is the kind of coach that not only makes
you want to continue to play well and do your
best on the field, he makes sure you're taken care
of well after your football career. And that's really, really hard,
I think to find just that empathetic heart that Bones has.
(14:33):
And I know a lot of the flak I was
getting on Twitter about this was the bad calls and
this and that and oh he extended his welcome and
I don't want to hear it like I will take
the good with the bad. No, really, I'll take the
good with the bad. When he has scouted out guys
like Brandon Aubrey, nobody in this league heard of Brandon
(14:56):
Aubrey until Bones Fossil went was watching him in Burningham
and then look what happened. Cavante Turpin another example that
Bones personally looked to scout out here, and of course
he credits the scouting department and all of that. That's
Bones Bones' mind is those two players alone can tell
you everything and how valuable he is as a coach
(15:17):
of finding players that were impactful from the first day
that they came here, even when they had no name
credited to them in the NFL yet. So for me,
it's really hard to replace the Bones Fossil and I
personally for special teams alone, I don't think there's anybody
out there you can bring in that can do that.
Speaker 7 (15:37):
Day one.
Speaker 10 (15:38):
I agree in fairness, like some of the rule changes
that we've seen with special teams, some of the things,
like some of the formations he has spearheaded to just
his point, a lot of the fullard thinking with special teams,
but also to just from a football standpoint, special teams.
Does a lot of players start as does Brian where
he started. Yeah, Like a lot of the time, it's
(16:00):
it's almost like a right to pass it. It's like
you have to go through special teams with a lot
of these positions to earn the.
Speaker 7 (16:06):
Opportunity to be on a field.
Speaker 10 (16:08):
So almost a special teams coordinator is one of the
only coordinators that will have a connection with a defensive player,
an offensive player, all of them because he has all
of those guys come together. For special teams to operate
such an important facet of the game. We see it
win and lose playoffs, in playoff games every year. I
do think out of all the gentlemen that you are
(16:30):
losing in this whole situation, he might be the most
impactful because he touches Like I said, he touches every
player that's on that touches that field. And yeah, I
do think it is going to be difficult, and I
think that it speaks to how quickly he got scooped
up as well, like people know who bones is.
Speaker 7 (16:46):
He's respected.
Speaker 10 (16:47):
I will say special teams stress me out sometimes this year,
but that's a part of the job.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
But that's a part of the job.
Speaker 10 (16:54):
But for the most part, to your point, just his
tenure most teams has been successful and he's a guy
that you know you are gonna miss.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
So yeah, from a football standpoint, it does kind of suck.
Speaker 8 (17:04):
Yeah, I think special teams definitely, just overall in the
league goes underrated until.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
Until you see it.
Speaker 8 (17:12):
We've seen it, see the season, impact the game either way,
and I just think it's gonna be something you don't
feel until next season because everyone's so focused on like, Okay,
we need another offensive weapon, we need another Depp ad Tagle,
we need this, we need that, and then you're gonna
the special teams is definitely, So I'm interested to see
what Plan B is there. But I also what flagged
(17:33):
my mind to see where he's going, and in my mind,
that is a lateral move. So I just wonder how
those conversations went if that was his choice, Like you said,
is this job, you know appealing? Was it even a
conversation if he could return, if certain things? And I
think that leadership wise, it's a big deal. You look
at that group. A lot of teams nowadays. You have
(17:56):
to be able. If you can play special teams, you
can make you can make a roster. So I think
just how that plays out going forward, because it's just
there's not one position on this team that I'm not
concerned about at this point, and that's what's.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
Scary that's insane.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Do you feel like this special teams unit will be
the same though, no?
Speaker 5 (18:15):
If not?
Speaker 6 (18:16):
No, you also have a coach that spearheaded the rule
change as your special teams coordinator, which you can see
that as an advantage or a disadvantage because he tried
to tried to outdo it, you know, a couple times,
and yes, some of those calls you were like what
is going on? But to his point, he always said,
if it works, it works, And you're asking me opposite
(18:36):
questions as a press conference, you know what I mean.
So for me, especially because the rule change is still
so new coming out of its first year, you kind
of know the kinks and like the pros and the
cons of it going into this next year, you still
would like to have that advantage of somebody who spearheaded
that change in that movement. So for me, I don't know, man,
(18:58):
it's just it sucks. I saw that and that one
that one hit me. I was like, dang. Because he's
also just a great coach with media. He's very media
friendly and an open book as far as talking like
sometimes pr is pretty much like okay, bones, like your
press is over, let's go, you know, Like he He
definitely is one of those coaches that is willing to
share with you, help you learn, help you grow, and
(19:21):
so wishing him and his family the best because those
little girls that he has are the cutest, are the best.
They actually sat in here with us a while back
and watching episode. So hope, hope, the Bones family is
doing well. By Shayla's I'm so sad.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
I'm certainly wishing Fossil the best of luck.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
And Tennessee, go dang it, it's gonna be sick.
Speaker 8 (19:44):
All right, We're gonna take our first break up.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Next, we're gonna break down.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
The pros and cons of this offensive staff that we
have right now.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
You may not be Jesus right now. It is possible,
yeah yeah, but as of right now, all right, we're
very bad.

Speaker 5 (23:11):
How about that?
Speaker 7 (23:12):
That's going into next season.
Speaker 6 (23:14):
I'm I'm de Lulu about most things. And yeah, next
season is another with Asian.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Well, I think we a little Lulu too right now
to be This is the new coaching staff.
Speaker 7 (23:24):
That I have.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
Oh yeah, you assigned it.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
Yeah, behind it?
Speaker 6 (23:27):
Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
This is just who I think out of who are
all available?
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Right now?
Speaker 6 (23:31):
Right there we go.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
I'm gonna go with I'm gonna start over here. Yeah,
I told you what I pick because you're your job secure.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
Yeah, you're you're set. I'm not good.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
Will mcclay's out the way.
Speaker 6 (23:43):
You're good. You're over there over there.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Yah, yeah, yeah, we got you is offensive line.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
Thank you, that's all I want.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
I can see that dream come true, dream come true.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
You could you can get your hands yet.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
I see that. I can see that.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
I'm not playing No, I know, tough them up.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
I'm gonna go with.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Don't give me something late. I'm gonna special teams coordinator.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
All right, special team I could do that or maybe
even nah, what was the other one. I'm just saying
we're gonna still advise h tight ends coach or maybe
tit ands coach. I don't know which one would you prefer.
Speaker 6 (24:17):
I'll be I'll be a hybrid coach. I'm hybrid special
teams and tight ends coach. Babes, who are you I'm
going to d C. Yeah yeah, yeah, we knew that's
our DC over here, Nicole, I have not plan.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
All right, all right, pros and cons the offense. Uh,
we'll start there with.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Just going through the coaches list and whether or not
you feel there's a pro or Connell, why they should stay,
why they should get the road Jack, don't you coming back?
Speaker 9 (24:45):
All right?
Speaker 5 (24:45):
Jeff Blasco. We were dotting it with him, the running
backs coach coordinator.
Speaker 9 (24:52):
Run.
Speaker 10 (24:53):
Thing I can say is that we have felt that
felt the effects of Skip Pete not being on this
roster the run game and stuff for that. Since, Okay, do.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
You think that's solely.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
On the running backs or is that just the decline
and not decline in the offensive line play to change?
Speaker 10 (25:14):
It's the changes with the offensive line coach, it's the
lack of urgency to go get running backs to help
your offensive line look better what it does like we do.
Speaker 7 (25:24):
And see in the other league, other parts of the league.
Speaker 10 (25:27):
And uh, and I also do think it's it's philosophy
change and and things like that.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
So yeah, Skip pet I remember, I don't know if
you you want to be here, but when Skip Pete left,
it it hurt people.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
It hit different.
Speaker 10 (25:42):
He's just he's just one of those guys that understands
obviously understands the position, but really speaks life into his
players and and also does things that are to their benefit.
Speaker 7 (25:52):
So I just.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
Huh to me, Yeah, you can't even figure that out
because who's your running back? No, who is it? Like,
I don't know what kind of coach you need because
who's in that room? Like, genuinely, I don't know. You're
starting running back last season? Is hitting free agency? Like
(26:17):
are you getting a rookie? Are you getting a free agent?
Are you resigning? That's gonna determine what I think about
the coach that needs to handle the situation. So TVD
another TVD, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (26:31):
Another TVD.
Speaker 8 (26:32):
I don't I don't think it's fair, But this is
a business. And like you guys pointed out, who did
he have? That's a big part of it. Who did
Mike McCarthy have. That's a big part of it. But
if we're going to clean house, clean house, especially offensively,
there's one guy and I'm pretty sure we can all
agree when we get there that deserves to stay, in
(26:53):
my opinion.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
But if we're gonna clean house, clean house.
Speaker 8 (26:57):
It's now, especially like hypothetic if it's a killing Moore,
especially if it's a Brian shot.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
Pull your face together.
Speaker 6 (27:05):
I'm sorry, what is new? What is changing? Right?
Speaker 8 (27:09):
Like you you gotta something has to within, And I
think if you're going to clean house, especially offensively, it's
time to clean house.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Yeah, Well, it also kind of goes back to I
believe I U should have mentioned this is that you
don't really know if it was up to Mike McCarthy
when it comes to the running back situation, or if
it was a Jeff Blasco situation, or you don't really know,
and so it's kind of hard to really assess if
(27:40):
Jeff Blasco really had a tough rain or hold on
that room and making those decisions in terms of who
should be running back one, who should I who should
be playing? I mean, so, yeah, a lot of TVD
But we're gonna go Robert Prince next. Wide receivers coach,
have you seen any improvement with the wide receivers?
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Okay, y'all, I'm not coming to the whole bunch, yep
me either. Next I will say pros.
Speaker 5 (28:09):
We'll start with pros first.
Speaker 8 (28:10):
I can't I should go last on that one, and
that is because I don't have one.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
And that's the problem. I believe.
Speaker 8 (28:18):
I believe Jalen Tolbert has a higher ceiling than what
was seen.
Speaker 6 (28:23):
I agree, and that we saw splashes right.
Speaker 8 (28:27):
Brandon Cooks goes out early in the season, and I
didn't see nothing changed. I just I saw Dak Prescott
go out, and I just felt like, Okay, understand who
your quarterback is now, and I just didn't see any changes.
It just looked like we were just trying to force the
same offense on a totally different quarterback with wide receivers that.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
Needed to step up.
Speaker 8 (28:53):
And I have a problem with him staying because I
feel like, again using Tolbert as probably in my opinion,
who I was looking forward to see the most kind
of grow in this season is if you go to
another team, I bet you they figured it out.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
And that's why I have a problem Modlitz.
Speaker 10 (29:10):
I mean just even based on Brandon Cooks as although
Brandon Cooks has had some issues, some knee issues, some
issues he's been here, he's always been a guy that
KISS played with even lesser respectfully no disrespect, but even
lesser talented quarterbacks than the quarterbacks he's played with here,
and you still couldn't figure out how to get him
the ball and play to strength. So for me, I
(29:32):
agree with you two ladies, is that there's what input
does he have? Yeah, that's the parts across the Yeah,
because it's like, if I'm if he's the wide receiver coach,
he should know all of the things that his unit
does well, what they don't do well. Honey, you're telling
me at no point in time that he wasn't allowed
(29:52):
to go say stop calling comebacks for this man. This
is not He doesn't have the catch radius for it.
His route running isn't as sharp as it was before
talking about Brandon Cooks. This is a guy that can
run past people, can sit in zones, can do things
like that. Like where is my thing about Robert Prince
is we've been talking about the wide receiver room for
(30:13):
the last two years now. I haven't even heard what
what input has he had on the trajectory of this room.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
So that's my.
Speaker 10 (30:20):
Biggest thing is your point is like, well, what's going
to change and has he even been a part of
any of the changes that.
Speaker 7 (30:28):
Have been made?
Speaker 6 (30:29):
And piggybacking off of both of y'all like your younger
guys and their development, especially because he is what a
second year coach, Yes, second year third carry the second
or third one well, regardless your younger players, your second
third players, their development to your point where you should
be way way further ahead than what it is, and
(30:52):
that's doing them a disservices players third.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
Four twenty twenty two, So what's that four?
Speaker 6 (30:58):
This is what year? Were three? Three? Girl? Mathis math?
Speaker 14 (31:03):
Was?
Speaker 6 (31:03):
It's fine?
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Come back there?
Speaker 6 (31:06):
No, but to that point too, Jalen Brooks Jalen Tolbert, Like,
the development just was not there and where it should
have been, especially considering you had your rookie or your rookie,
oh my god, your backup quarterback in that they get
their practice reps with most of the time. So to me,
(31:26):
the development of your young players tells me how how
much you're working with them. And I don't know exactly
what you saw other than Seedee Lamb literally holding the
season with one arm, Like, yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
It's and that's just based on target as a natural athlete.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
Well right, But also at what point, at what point
do you give him some relief so he's not feeling
like he has to play these games when playoff contention
is off the table to just win with literally a
banged up shoulder that wasn't surgery required at that point,
but had it kept going, who knows how much that
could have leaned into next season and rehabbing and all that. Like,
(32:07):
I'm not willing to risk ceed Lamb. That's why your
other receiver should be ready for games like that in
moments like that, like why weren't they will?
Speaker 10 (32:15):
I want to ask you guys though, like it is frustrating,
but I want to ask you guys with with everything
that you said, we know how the Cowboys handle the
wide receiver room. Yeah, they have handled it in a
very like ceed Lamb fell to them.
Speaker 7 (32:29):
They got lucky. You know, they have handled it.
Speaker 10 (32:32):
You know besides Brandon and Brandon Cooks, they brought in
trade me what trade meal?
Speaker 7 (32:38):
I want to call it so bad, but yeah, they
brought in the trough and Mingo.
Speaker 10 (32:44):
With the way that you handled wide receiver room like
it is not a priority, maybe the coach needs to
be a guru then if you if you're not going
to go out and get more of a CD Lamb
that just has the natural ability to overcome, then you
need a guru to teach these third round, fourth round
guys that the Cowboys like to go after because they
(33:06):
don't want to invest to become those type of players.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
But you have guys on that roster, Brandon Cooks, who
you didn't use.
Speaker 5 (33:14):
So it's like.
Speaker 10 (33:16):
That's what I'm saying, Like I don't know, I just
think if you won't handle like that, then your coach
has to be super sharped then.
Speaker 6 (33:23):
But I think the blame goes equally across the table,
like it's not just Robert Prince, it's also head coach
and you know O see, like I think everybody gets
their fair share of blame, but you won't. Actually, again,
this is so hard because, especially offensively, you don't know
how much of it was play calling, and you don't
know how much of it was position coach decisions like
(33:43):
who has control, who has the say? You don't know,
and so really it's like I can't even fault any
of these position coaches because they don't know how much
say or control they had in the lack of you know,
involvement in younger players or anybody other than ceedee lamb. Really,
I mean it's it's hard to say, so I do
think goes everywhere.
Speaker 8 (34:02):
I'm sorry to cut you off. I just thought about
CD was gone for the entire camp. That was the time,
in my opinion, to it was kind of an opportunity,
like we heard that for the players, but also for
the coaches to see and play with things you normally
couldn't when CD was there.
Speaker 6 (34:18):
Because obviously he's gonna be running with the ones and
everything like that.
Speaker 8 (34:21):
And so I just felt I just remember like all
the hype that was going on and the different Jalens
were shining through and Illinois was doing the outus just
like and then died out real quick because it burned
out the candle. And again, it's not to put it
on one person. This this a season like this goes.
(34:42):
There's from top to bottom. There's just a lot of
things that needs gone. But no one's gonna hype me.
Speaker 6 (34:46):
Up about a wide receivers coach chapter or something like that.
Speaker 7 (34:49):
And keeping the main thing. The main thing is sounded
like we should be winning.
Speaker 10 (34:53):
It sounds like listening to everything you ladies are saying,
it sounds like there might have been philosophy difference, there
might have been issues because again to your point, Jess,
I'm glad that you mentioned like we really don't know
who did what, win a where, But the goal should
have been winning games. The goal should have been playing
to the strengths of the guys that you have on
your roster, whether you feel like they're lesser or not.
(35:14):
With respect. We see teams work with lesser. Yeah, we
see teams get it done. But if there's a collective,
you know, decision to win games and this is how
we're gonna do it, then all of these extracurricular conversations
and feelings and oh I had this is my favorite player,
so I want him to play all of that it
would have went out the window for the greater good
(35:36):
of the team. And I feel like we see that
exemplified on the field with the decisions that are being made.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Let's go with Linda Wells.
Speaker 6 (35:45):
I like him. I'm okay if he stays.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Pro and con or which one you want to do first?
Speaker 6 (35:52):
It's the pro is the con.
Speaker 8 (35:53):
For me, I was I was really hyped up on Ferguson,
sat down with them, Darren Camp and that is who's
to me surprised me the most.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
I don't know if I know.
Speaker 8 (36:06):
He was dealing with injury and I and I seen
the you know, when you make a great block as
a tight end that does not that's not getting noted, right.
Speaker 6 (36:15):
I've seen him be able to do that.
Speaker 8 (36:16):
But I'm talking about the lack of productivity, especially when
Cooks is out the game and you think it's going
to be Ferguson that's going to be picking up all
these you know reps.
Speaker 6 (36:29):
I thought, with the dynamic and how he.
Speaker 8 (36:31):
Leads that group altogether, that that was just going to
like flourish, And it was a little bit disappointing. But
I think overall, what he stands for and the fact
that you know, just like most of the other coaching positions,
you know, they they they praise him in that and
I think.
Speaker 6 (36:51):
With a different coach, this will be different.
Speaker 8 (36:56):
But I also now am like, Okay, why my pros
to con if it's Brian Shoanheimer, who was already in here,
what is really going to change?
Speaker 6 (37:05):
And that's I think it's gonna be don't clean house.
It's gonna be a lot of what we saw this season. Yeah,
I'm gonna say I would keep Lunda because out of
all of the players that we get to talk to
and we hear from the most consistent room that constantly
almost every time you talk to them, talks about Lunda,
(37:26):
I mean credits him to how much work he's pouring
into them as players as individuals. And again that speaks
volumes to me. If these guys I wasn't even asking
about Lunda and they will just credit him and throw
his name out there. That's the kind of coach you
need across the board for every position group here. You
(37:47):
want every single player to sit there and credit them,
not because you're asking them like hey, how's Lunda bin No, no, no,
they take initiative to do it because they're playing for
their coach. So for me, anytime a guy can rally
you up like that, doing your job. Now, how it's
utilized and how the tight ends usage was underutilized. Again, again,
(38:08):
I don't know how much of that was right to say. Yeah,
and so I back to what we were saying about
Robert Prince, like, I don't know, but I do think
when guys play for their coach, you get a better
result overall.
Speaker 10 (38:22):
Yeah, we basing it off of development and that type
of stuff. I think Lunda has been one of the
most consistent with being able to develop some of these
tight ends we know as a whole of the tight
end room was disappointed as a whole this year, and
it does put him in a tough spot as a
coach with the injuries and to deal to lose John
Stevens Junior again to acl Brevin span Ford came in,
(38:44):
did some things for you, but it wasn't enough. And
then you talk about Jake Ferguson. I'm glad you mentioned
the injuries he also too.
Speaker 7 (38:52):
You know, we didn't get to see him a lot
and receive an.
Speaker 10 (38:54):
Aspect because baby, he was over there helping at your tackles.
Speaker 6 (38:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (38:57):
Yeah, Like there's just and with the lack of depth
behind him that is proven, that is performing. It also
puts the coaching staff in a bind because it's like,
I can't can't run twelve.
Speaker 7 (39:10):
I can't run thirteen.
Speaker 10 (39:11):
I can't there are certain formations you can't run because
you don't trust your tight ends to do the job.
Speaker 5 (39:15):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (39:16):
And it is such I'm serious, y'all. Like this room
is might it is. It's pivotal what happens in this
room because it limits you so much when you don't
have tight ends that can get out there and do
the things you need them to do. They're an extension
of your offensive line, and now their extension of your
passing game. They might be a foc upon your passing game.
I think that Jake Ferguson did struggle when Dak went
(39:36):
out a lot.
Speaker 7 (39:37):
Of players, a lot of players.
Speaker 10 (39:39):
I think he suffered the most with Dak being out
because the places where he can attack on the field,
your backup quarterback was not comfortable throwing like that. Middle
of field is hard to attack, it is, and so
I think we saw a lot of his numbers drop
because of that.
Speaker 7 (39:55):
I want to be respectful to him.
Speaker 10 (39:56):
Because of what he went through health wives this year,
I think it really affected him more. But as far
as going back to the conversation about Loanda development, fine,
he might get the short end of stick because of
what's going on here, and it.
Speaker 7 (40:08):
Sucks, but it's the reality.
Speaker 10 (40:10):
And I do kind of want a different feel for
that room because there's some toughness that's needed in that
room and efficiency that's.
Speaker 7 (40:18):
Needed in that room.
Speaker 6 (40:19):
So yeah, I would keep him.
Speaker 7 (40:20):
He might be our offensive line coach.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
All right, We're gonna stick with efficiency and take our
second break. Be right back when we're a real star
boys talk for his envivor's line after the break.

Speaker 5 (43:52):
All right?
Speaker 4 (43:52):
All right? Pros and cons real facts before we have
to go. Well, we don't know my Zimmer if he's
gonna be retiring if he's interested in still staying in coaching.
But a pro and con of keeping Mike zimmer A.
Speaker 6 (44:06):
Ki Wow, I love the okay Bi Lingua crows ros
go to pro pros. I think now that he's learned
from what he should have done last year, he would
have a better season this year. Also, pro, you get
all your guys back from injury and you can actually
(44:27):
set the system up that you had planned to when
you wanted to, and you don't have to have a
watered down, cut down version because of all the injuries.
So I think that's pro for any DC that steps
into this position is you have your guys and you
have your main guys. So yeah, I think that's a
pro for Mike and the guys know him. It seems
(44:48):
like the guys were growing very fond of him and
spoke well of him in the locker room, and so yeah,
I also think a pro is you don't have another
DC come in here. I mean you're talking Jeron Bland
has had a new DC every single season of his
(45:09):
career so far. Stability would be great. So any path
to stability I'm all for. That's a pro. That's where I'm.
Speaker 8 (45:16):
At Butch you gobri pro for Zimmer because it is experience,
it is leadership, it is he proven he can do
with lesser. He's figured it out with this team, which
I'm very scared is going to struggle another season with
having an offensive identity. So at least that is one
less thing on defense in my mind from Zimmer, because
(45:38):
it sounds like the coach is going to be a
lesser experienced candidate regardless of who comes in. At this point,
they're not paying the big bucks for the big guns,
and we know Ben Johnson is out, and that was
the only person that kind of made sense in my
(45:59):
mind that was like the young, take a chance, creative,
whatever have you. But like you said to these players,
respects him. He's proven himself. Now if he wants to
come back, that is a whole different conversation.
Speaker 6 (46:12):
But I don't think it.
Speaker 8 (46:15):
I wouldn't I wouldn't change when I say clean house
offense and defense sounds painful.
Speaker 7 (46:20):
No, it does. It hurts unless you're gonna, you know,
draft free agency foundation.
Speaker 6 (46:28):
I don't get too crazy over there, be greedy.
Speaker 7 (46:32):
So I'll definitely agree with you. Definitely agree with you, ladies,
and some of the pros that you mentioned.
Speaker 10 (46:41):
I think one of the biggest pros to me is
going to be the fact that I believe that zimmer
system is very relevant to what this NFL looks like.
You're dealing with mobile quarterbacks, you're dealing with a lot
of younger quarterbacks as well right now.
Speaker 7 (46:54):
In his system, it really.
Speaker 10 (46:56):
Folks, really makes you have to read what he is doing.
It's not just cut and dry lineup.
Speaker 7 (47:02):
Can they do that?
Speaker 10 (47:03):
Sometimes if focuses on stopping the run, it doesn't emphasize turnovers,
but turnovers will.
Speaker 7 (47:08):
Come to you if you're in position.
Speaker 10 (47:09):
It is a disciplined, very versatile scheme. So that's a
pro to me because it's gonna continue, like what he
likes to do is gonna continue. Also to you ladies
mentioned that it's another year of him having you know,
these guys like they had some trouble getting the scheme,
as towards the end of the season they got it,
all those good things blah blah blah. But one of
(47:29):
the cons I would say to bringing Zimmer back, and
he's probably one of the only cons, is the fact
that this foolishness that is going on right now is
we've heard this man speak about the fact that coming
back to football was a decision that he made for
sentimental reasons.
Speaker 7 (47:48):
But also too, is that he has a love for
the game. This is a circus. We don't even know.
He don't even know right now who his head coach is.
Speaker 10 (47:57):
If he is gonna be here yea who wants like
again to our original point at the beginning of this conversation,
these men have families, These men, these men have lives.
They have other things in their career that they might
want to pursue, and they are being held up right
now to some extent, or they weren't.
Speaker 7 (48:13):
Held up to go pursue other opportunities. There's no certainty here.
So it also too is.
Speaker 10 (48:19):
Like, is you are they gonna bring Zimmer back on
a one year deal? Because it sounds like listening to
his pressors, that.
Speaker 7 (48:24):
Is not something he wants.
Speaker 10 (48:26):
He wants somewhere where he can have some stability, and
I get that. So for me, the con to bringing
him back will be the fact that he's coming.
Speaker 7 (48:33):
Back in here.
Speaker 10 (48:34):
Yeah, we talking about the scheme, the system, all this,
but what if the new head coach is like na umbro,
That's not what I want to do. Because they can.
I mean, so, I don't know. That's probably my biggest.
Speaker 7 (48:46):
Con with bringing Zimmer back.
Speaker 4 (48:48):
All right, Well, hopefully we have some new coaching news
next Tuesday, because that's when we will be back here
on Girls Talk BOYSTOK, presented by a visit line for
Ashan Morris and j Justinvars. Brianna Aldrich.
Speaker 5 (48:57):
I'm the callect just said, we'll see all back here
next week.
Speaker 6 (49:01):
Question.
Speaker 15 (49:02):
I'm just working that.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
